There are oceans of games on this website. Many are good. Many are bad. Shining within the large ocean was a beacon of light. That light was Dog Adventure. So I obviously decided to play and review for the Review Kingdom event.

Dog Adventure is a medium length comedy turn based RPG. Comedy games can be VERY hit or miss. I have an ongoing theory that Dog Adventure was created by someone talented who was sick of being so serious all the time and this game was the result of venting from everyday life's stress. Why am I assuming the developer of this was talented? The answer lies with Dog Adventure: the game was good despite being pure madness.

Star as Dog, short from Huge Dogger, and find yourself on a journey to open up the door in a hole near his house. This is no short journey. You will traverse across a vast world of dungeons with clever puzzles and towns with nonsense dialogue where you have to comprehend the argjfjhddjfhdjh of it all. You will eventually team up with Dog Module and Goose Howard, whom become your trusty companions, as you take on this world of madness.

Dog Adventure is about the overall character of the world. The writing in the game is honestly quite good. It is full of typos and nonsense text, so how can it be good? Well, I see it as RPG Maker satire. The game is well aware of the typos. In fact, part of me wants to believe it is making fun of bad RPG Maker games and mistakes beginners often fall into. Yet, at the same time, I think the developer may have accidentally made a typo here and there while writing and decided to make a joke about it. I do not understand the tripped out mind of this strange developer, but one thing I do understand is that this game is quality humor.

The focus was vastly on the nonsense writing, yet the game was full of cleverly crafted dungeons. The puzzles were satire of typical RPG Maker dungeon puzzles. Almost like a challenge to the player's patience, the game will present annoying sounding puzzles, the ones you might have dreaded in other RPG Maker games. Yet, every single dungeon in this game left me impressed with the quality of level and puzzle design.

The mapping was VX Ace RTP and could have been better. At the same time, the somewhat half-assedness of the maps added to the overall feel of the game. The enemy graphics were strange edits of various famous things on the internet, perhaps memes that I'm completely unaware of or just the result of a developer's sick sense of humor. Often character sprites would not match their facesets and the game would make fun of itself for that. I don't know, using RPG Maker for like half my life made me appreciate that type of humor. We have all seen it a million times.

More than half the game takes place in various towns where you find quests that annoy the canine main character yet leaves him no choice but to complete them to proceed his story. The towns somewhat remind me of towns in Earthbound, where a lot of the dialogue you receive are knocking on locked doors and getting gag dialogue in return.

The gameplay is all default VX Ace battle system with a random encounter system. The battle gameplay, believe it or not, had a good amount of depth. I did not feel the need to fight most the random encounters as there were far too many, but it was easy enough to run away. The bosses were what I deemed as good fights in a small scale type of way. It was surprisingly satisfying to have the character's skills work together.

The music is a mix of original and lots of stuff we all know and love. All of it is used well. I'm not going to tell someone to make an all original soundtrack for a comedy game such as this. The developer could pull that off, however, as what I presume is the original music was pretty good. The sound effects were used very well and often had random voice clips from various forms of media.

The game was also very glitch free besides one place it crashed. (I will point out where in notes.)

When one fhjdhkfdjhfudhduifdhfdufhidufhdifudhhfffhfh begins this dog adventure, ncenedideidjediojediejdeodijeoidjedjeidj no one knows how long they will cneojideiodiedjeodijedieojdiejdiejbceubeub continue playing. Eeffffdhdhhdhdhdhddhdhdhdhdh Yet I found a heeufiefheifueiufehcunuenueiueheueyeu maddening desire eifoejfeofiefjoefiejofeijfoidjodifjdoifj to keep going. Nieojdiejoijdlskjdksldjsdjk I did not know sjdsdhsshdsjkhskdjshdkjhjdhksdh how long iifijijjfjrijifjirjfirjfjirjjrijifjir the game would take me. It was a lot longer than I thought. Dhfudfhidfudhfidfudhfuidhfuidhfuihduf Yet I did every puzzle djfhdufudhfdifudhfiuhduifhdifhidufh diligently. Fhdufdfdifudfhdifuhdiufhfdh From randomly pressing switches hdufdifdufhdifudhfuihdfudhifuhdufhdfiudhf to make bridges hudiudheiudheiduedhieh to figuring out who in the helldhfudifdufhdifuhdfiudhfidufhdiufdh won a Mario Kart race. Djfiodfidfodifjdofijdfoidjfodijf I did it all. And I enjoyed it.

The game may have dragged on too long in the end, yet it never became something I did not enjoy. If you want to take a break from game dev, playing serious games, or just want a good humor game to play... Then Dog Adventure is your game. For it may entice you the same way it enticed me.
