On this day in 2009...

...the full v1.0 version of Hero's Realm was released.

And look how far it's come since then! ...oh wait, you can't, because I haven't released anything since. Welp.

Anyway, I have been slowly plugging away on this project (and chugging away on double-doubles). Most recently, I reviewed my TODO list. Things were getting a little messy again, and as you all know, being organized is almost as good as being talented.

So, at a high level, this is what I am working towards:

..::NEWTODO::..
(in roughly priority order)
x-ASSESSMENT: need to review the OVERVIEW of NEWTODO, for high level items
-PLAN: development plan 2023
-ASSESSMENT: review THIS document for all outstanding ideas!
-ASSET: animations
-ASSET: soundeffects
-CONCEPT: a proper concept paper, design doc, proposal, description
-ASSET: reach out to zDS and pianotm earnestly about finalizing music/OST
-IMPLEMENT: battle events
-IMPLEMENT: item reordering
-ASSET: class/character sheets
-IMPLEMENT: renaming all of the copyright infringement things (so many!)
-IMPLEMENT: bugfixes
-IMPLEMENT: rebalancing
-IMPLEMENT: enhancements
-ASSESSMENT: review the original game holistically again (weak points; areas for improvement)
-TESTING: playthrough + story review
-SHOWCASE: HR titlescreen/banner (+ gameprofile + twitter avatars etc.)
x-SHOWCASE: gather testimonials

If you need help with anything and it's something I can do, I'd love to pitch in. :D Tho it seems like a lot of it is database work and battle eventing.

Tho if you happen to need help in any areas like battle animations, dialog, simple sprite work, suggestions for renaming copyright infringement things or anything else, drop me a line!

At any rate, I'll be here cheering you on either way! :D Happy Birthday, Hero's Realm!
You can also let me know anytime if you need anything else in terms of art (aside from what I already have to finish, of course!).
If you ever need to give me an opportunity to get my name in the credits and contribute some small piece of art then I'm open for taking advantage of that opportunity for cool guy points

Congrats on the birthday, RMNDad
does anyone believe that I would feel guilty asking for help like this, like I am taking unfair advantage? because that's how I feel. Plus, there is the knowledge that I'm taking forever on this and that it is doubly-unfair that any help someone offers won't see the light of day for a long long time

Although I can relate with that, I'd say don't let that fear stop you from asking for help. I getting some help will let you actually work on thi smore than you currenty are, then I'd say ask for all the help you can get. Better that than stay stagnant because of fear.

Do whatever you feel, if asking for help really makes you uncomfortable, then that's fine.

At the same time, while I can't speak for everyone here, I think we're offering not just because you're some Joe Shmoe trying to make a game, but because you're someone we like and you're remastering a game that's already a treasured classic.

You've already got a ton on your plate and I think it would make your forever game take maybe a little less forever if you had more help.

This game made a connection with this site, we WANT to add to it.

If I want something to see the light of day right away, I'd continue working on my own stuff. The stuff I am giving to this is giving something back to you/this site, it's not about the instant gratification.

If you're interested, I can sometime ramble about various lessons I learned going commercial myself. Just try not to fall into the "commercial worthy" trap too often. Just for a quick point to make, the original one is already commercial worthy minus the copyrighted stuff you used, which I'm fairly sure is well on its way of being fixed.
I would love lessons learned.

There's a difference between "Dev who has never touched a game engine before and asking for five figures on kickstarter" asking for help, and "Dev who has completed multiple games and has 60%+ of this one done" asking for help. Part of the reason people want to help is because your project -does- have a chance of seeing the light of day.

You've proven that you can manage a project. That's a skill that many devs sorely lack.
Personally, I'm in it because I loved the OG game so much (it's still one of my fave RM games ever, even after playing literally THOUSANDS of 'em) and because, well, I like ya.
I usually help friends out when they ask, and I like to think of the people on this site as friends, so I think if people are offering they feel the same, perhaps.

It can definitely feel weird and like taking advantage, though, I really get that, but keep in mind that if you're feeling that way, you're probably not taking advantage in a bad way. People who do take advantage of others rarely tend to feel guilt about it, so I think you're fine.

I should have asked for five figures on kickstarter. Then I'd have a whole host of people to disappoint!
Hero's Realm owns, happy 14th birthday HR!

I'd love to help, but all I can do is cheerlead. So go Kentona and team! You can do it! You have my support.

Hey, maybe you should start a patreon and put out a playable demo for a bit of the game on steam, Itch.io or gamejolt; just to show that you have a product that has potential. But I should point out that maybe you should remove some stuff, so the demo doesn't contain spoilers (don't use Events to a point to end the demo, just remove stuff).
PS: Just so you know, Rpg 2000 and Rpg 2003 cannot be encrypted, for some RPGMs you can datamine datafolders to check damage formula, weapons, armor and stats; but you can always encrypt pictures and other things. In other words: Rpg 2000 and Rpg 2003 you can copy and paste the entire game from Steam. This is why many say that Rpg2000/2003 is a bad idea for games you want to sell.
