Font help?

I need some help with the font in my game. Letter such as g, or y, get cut off at the bottom. Is there anyway to fix that?

Right now I am thinking about how long it is going to take to organize and reformat all of my own sprites so I can use them for my game.
How to make a sprite background transparent?

I can tell you from personal experience that importing a graphic made in MS Paint is more than just importing the image, and selecting the background as the "transparent" color. If you're using a different program to make the graphics in question, I fear I can't really help all that much.
I am using MS paint, I am too lazy to wait for Photoshop to start up now.
