And the mushroom is totally out of scene, and is not fitting of the game's world.
You won't see it, in the official game. :)
And to the others regarding the sprite, I totally agree with you.
Although I do love the chibis in general (nostalgic thing).
Unfortunately I suck at spriting but here is a quick edit of one of the XP sprites, what do you guys think?

@alterego: Thanks, This was one of my earlier attempts at water animation and had a few flickering water edges, but I have a method of removing them now.
So In the final version it should be smooth. :)

It's just a preference of mine. Maybe from playing all the old ps1 rpgs it's nostalgic.
