So you want to be a game developer?

A lengthy but rewarding read. Well worth it. I was happy to see most of the lessons I've learned over years of practice appear in this post, as well as some new insight. I was especially relieved to see that other developers face the same challenges.

As Derek Yu said, I have started to make alot of damn games, but have no damn games to show for it. I'm going to follow your advice Kentona and this time make my damn game.

This is an indie game? I can hardly believe it.

Really like the mapping here, especially up on the top half. A shadow near the doorway seems out of place. I assume this shadow is for the crossbeams up ahead, but this shadow continues even after the beam ends.

Very lush and peaceful looking. Really like the atmosphere of map. Detailed, without being overcrowded.

Are your sprites customer made? I've never seen their like before and they're quite excellent. I'm a sucker for sprites that actually do more than just stand in the same static position, like the guy sitting.

Sorry you don't have to tell me where they're from. I'm more curious if they're edited or self-made.

While the mapping is fantastic (and unique) I find myself admiring the sprites the most. Dancers, clowns, musicians, roadies...not just original, but really nice looking sprites too

Introduction

Very impressed with how you created the barrage. The way the screen shook, the animation effect, and even the idea to have the blasts fly past the ship were all very cinematic and reminded me of how they would have done it back in the day, with the classic games. Very well done. I'm looking forward to getting to try this game in May.

Celianna couldn't have done this better. Amazing job. You're an inspiration.

Also, you may want to reconsider bringing back Felix ;) Cameo appearance?

Incredible. Would love for you to teach me how to do such amazing water. I especially like the added touch of having some water on deck the ship. Very nice work.

Really warm colors. You can feel the ambiance.
