Elemental Weaknesses (and battles that make you think)

Good discussion here. I think EWs are fun just because you can make bigger damage numbers appear on screen. But there should be some way to balance the use of EW. Like you could have Mp actually matter. Persona 3 certainly did that... I don't think you could buy Mp restore items. I really like Craze's idea to have elemental items that are scarce.

On the other hand, you shouldn't go too far the other way and have EWs become too confusing. Like how Vagrant Story had tons of different damage types. Too much! If you are using something like Magic Stones from FFIX to assign abilities to characters, then maybe something like auto-scan would be a good choice. Or you could have dinos like in Chrono Trigger that are weak to lightning attacks but store up lightning damage and counter attack; basically what some other people said.

Lowering your standards and finishing your game

Yeah, you have to actually get it done somehow, which can mean checking on with reality and lowering unreasonable standards.

Of course, you might think of lowering your ego too.

Single Character RPGs: How Can They Work?

I'm making a game that is largely single character. One of the things I am implementing is no game over! Instead of game over, there are smaller penalties for dying that are just setbacks (think Breath of Fire 2, Azure Dreams, Demon's Souls etc).

Another part of making a single char RPG work would be some way to avoid many battles. Maybe the cyborg could sneak attack/one shot enemies under the right conditions?

lol, yeah Vagrant Story was ruthless hard!

Time to Introduce myself

Haha, thanks Deckiller and others. I doubt I'll be busting out tons of games, but I will put some things up once they're satisfactory.

Time to Introduce myself

Hi guys,

I never know what to say for introductions. Its always an awkward experience, so instead I've jumped in and started replying to other newbies' introductions ;) But I figured I should post my own too. Anyway, I'm sure I'll get along here fine (I hope so at least!). It seems pretty active for an RM site. I'm looking forward to meeting some cool folks.

I've been working on a game for a couple of years now, but I'll talk about that later. I have a roomate who I talk to about my game too much, so hopefully I won't ramble on too much about it here. IRL I go to college and raise my little boy. I like life, and I like writing dialog and stories, especially for games, although it takes a lot of time.

I hope to have fun here, and I think I've already picked up on some useful advice to "post lots!" just from reading other introductions!

Hey there

Hello anime TOD! I''ve happen to have a very close friend who is an anime nerd too! My advice is to make what you like, because there will be some other people who like it too; but also take feedback if you do get a demo or game out there for everyone!

I'm new here too! Welcome!

Hey there

Hi there! I have similar feelings about the 2003 sideview (although not so much the Hp values). XP is actually quite good, especially is you learn to script, but I prefer 2000 just like you ;) Haven't tried VX. Anyway, you seem nice! People forget that it can be intimidating to try and join an online community! I'm new here too though... So good luck to us both! This is actually my first post.

Cool to hear about your mapping/ripping skills. But Secret of Mana (Seiken Dentsetsu 2) was way more awesome than its sequel! What game are you working on making??
