Single Character RPGs: How Can They Work?
Well I am someone who srted on rpgs mostly for being lonely as a teen and the games caught my attention exactly for having other "people" to interact in the game so for years I took a hatred towards one character games aside from megaman and a few platforms (being exceptions only for having cool robots and techy stuff).
The first lone hero game to make me feel diferent was Alundra for PS1, took me a while to understand how I got so in to it but the answer is simple: NPCs, interesting, active and charismatic, more than some party members in party rpgs.
So that beats the issue for players who like to have "buddies" with them, you could like give your character constant but no fighting companions, or have then contact others remotely like Metal Gear does, or just have the player meet lots of diferent folks all the time.
Now the issue at hand seems battle, Turn based at that.
I think it is perfectly doable even without complex systems, only thing to note as others have said is not make many enemies cause it is damn boring to play once and then have the computer play 4 times til you go again.... :(
Someone suggested duels and I think it is perfect, I was playing Jojo´s bizarre Adventure for ps1 and thought it could be a cool rpg in its story mode with just duels. Even if they are in a party, fights are one on one for sake of honor and al that.
With duels you can do lot and broaden the strategy ideas since you don´t need to think of several party members.

Wold Map request
Well here is a hint:
Try to somewhat shape things, don´t care for perfection, just outline the continents and then you go fixing stuff as it goes. Post here for feedback and so on, it is easier for people to help that way :D

Hi Everyone,
Domisuto LLC is looking for some great pixel artists to help us bring TinyTown to life. It's our city building game on Facebook. We launched not to long ago and are rapidly growing. We're looking for artists that can match or exceed the quality of our art while maintaining its realistic yet colorful style. Please check out the links below.

We're looking for artists with excellent design sense, can produce all 4 sides of a building using a template as a guideline, and are interested in building a new kind of city game show casing tiny people, traffic, and giants moving about.
In the latest.jpg, we have samples of photo references, an iso template and the final product. For reference, we paid ~$114 US for the neo mediterranean for 4 unique sides without mirroring. The victorian was ~$109 for 4 unique sides. Prices and rates are negotiable. We are a new company, but we are financially stable and have a record of payment.
If you're interested in helping us build a great game or want to find out more, please contact Ezio at this email: jobs @ domisuto.com
Please provide samples of buildings and/or other objects you'd find in a city. If you don't have samples of buildings in your portfolio, we will ask you to produce a couple of small samples to gauge your ability.

Thoughts on the Number of Skills/Spells per character.
Well yeah, it comes down to peference XD In fact, I like to create my own hero, but only in pen and paper RPGs or board rpgs when the creation will be complete and it ill reflect more. In most games where I saw character creation, the character looked really empty, or looked like a total outsider with no one who truly knows then and no motivation besides "getting money", "doing good' or "doing bad' (depending on alignment :P)
Only time I enjoyed it was exactly in a RM game, Mage Duel bu Max Mcgee, maybe cause I the motivation (survive) got me hooked.
But yeah, most of the time I don´t like the main hero on japanese games (or anime in general) but there are always those older and or more collected badass guys in the corner who I like :)
As for equipping skills, the thing is that forgetting, even for a time, is the only explanation I see to limit how skls can be used. I always complained about it in FFT. But sure that, depending on setting you can make it feel ok, somethong like skills related to weapon you are holding (if you equip a sword, can only use sword skills)
But still, I prefere it when everything you has is useful and yet not too many skills, again, see Chrono Trigger.
Well usuaaly progressing in skill (fire1 2, 3...) is there to make the player feel they got more powerful, same as oving from the wooden sword to the ultimate doombringer one. But while I do understand this, I it can be done differently, so stats, area etc
