i'd say off by default. that's how i see it in most games and i generally agree with it cuz it can be distracting if you're not used to it.

not a tester but i see no reason why that wouldn't work. i don't think most have time to just sit and play the entire game in a day anyway, especially if they're being nitpicky and thorough
