Discrimination within the narrative

Did the Skyrim Stormcloak thing really receive a backlash large enough that the writers actually have to worry? I have seen people misunderstand that conflict, but I haven't seen much ire directed towards the writers.

Killed the first step-sister in Child of Light. Cinderella should take notes. I unlocked better skills and Aurora lost about 10 years of her life. Maybe Cinderella should not take notes.

I'm going to call foul on some tricks the game pulls. I lost two battles so far, both time due to the same crap. I encounter a boss and interrupt it. The boss then goes all "ahaha, you interrupted me like you have been taught to do, now I'm going to hit you with a party wide slow spell!" and basically punishes me for not letting the boss act unhindered. For those who wonders, interruption works pretty much like cancelling does in the Grandia series.

Started playing Child of Light. It's fun so far. The interrupting mechanics work great and is easy to use. The game also successfully managed to make offensive spells into something you use in strategic situations rather than always or never, which is the usual JRPG fare.

The skill tree seems more like an opportunity for players to make mistakes rather than offering real customization. It does serve the purpose of making level ups more desirable than they would have been if you got skills at set levels though.

I've just finished the main game of Tales of Zestiria. It was quite fun, but also disappointing.

The story started out great, but got reduced to decent for the second half. For the first half of the game, the story gave you a main character with enough power to change the tide of a war between nations, but also presented the dilemma of how little that does help in solving social problems. In the middle of that, a greater threat was looming in the background. For the second half, the main character interacted much less with the political powers and instead the game settled for just blabbering about humanity and human society. The looming threat also felt more like it was patiently waiting for the main character to do whatever, something that immediately nullifies the sense of danger. The writing itself was good though and that prevented the second half from becoming a train wreck. Well, with some exceptions, like Seymonne, who's lines were just as ridiculous as her outfit.

The battle system is okay, but nothing special. The game gives you a load of options in battles, but most options have rather a low impact. The basics of the battle system like attacking and defending worked okay, but not great. Adding a ton of middling option on top of a middling base isn't really a super recipe.

What is good all the way trough though is the character interaction. Not only that, but despite having a total of eight character (two non permanent), almost all relevant two character combinations interacted meaningfully.

"On Let's Plays" - Dev expresses plight over how LP's have impacted his game's sales

I dunno, being able to inform yourself is definitely important, and gameplay videos are a good way of doing that, but on Steam at least, if there's a discrepancy between the game's trailers and actual gameplay, the review section is filled with people not recommending the game. Reading/watching the review of one person might give only give you the opinion of the reviewer, but reading/watching the reviews of multiple people is a very good way to inform yourself.

I'm not talking about obvious scams, I'm talking about the fact that trailers shows the most exiting parts of gameplay and (spoiler free) cutscenes rather than the average.

I agree that that is almost always the case. But if the developer feels differently, then it's still a dick move to LP the game. It doesn't matter whether the developer is right or not, all that matters is that their work is being used against their will. Yes, LPing falls under fair use and is completely legal even if the developer doesn't want it (Even though Youtube's bullshit claim system seems to think otherwise), but LPing a game when the dev doesn't want you to is a dick move regardless of its legality.

An LP or any video uploads of a game being played, is the best way for me to get an accurate picture of what to expect from a game. Trailers show me what the publishers want me to see and a review show me the reviewer's opinion. Watching a gameplay video actually shows me what to expect.

I can respect a developer's wish to not have their game spoiled, but I absolutely cannot respect a developer's wish for any extent of control over how well I can inform myself. For this reason, I cannot agree with you for the majority of games.

In order to know what effect an LP has on a game, you have to know both how many people who decide not to get the game because they partially experienced it via a Let's Play and how many extra customers you got thanks to the added exposure. How do you figure out any of those numbers?

What LP's definitely do however is to remove control from the developer. For example, a common tactic I use is to hit an LP, pick a video in the middle of the playlist and then watch a few minutes of combat. This gives me a far more accurate picture of what I can expect than a trailer does. Obviously, there is no reason to sympathize with developers in this particular question.

[RMVX ACE] Luck's purpose as a parameter.

Why is the LUK stat even there in the first place when it barely affects anything in the game?

I don't think Enterbrain understands how effective something is. The sample spells in VX had the SPI-F set to 30 which makes spirit almost useless. Many users took it as a recommendation and the result was a load of VX projects where the spirit stat was negligible.

Damage - an overview

If you want it to take 3 actions to defeat an enemy and you go with EHP = 3 * HDO then random variance will make it so that half the time you will need four actions. Even with no random variance, it just takes for the party to be slightly under leveled or under equipped and it will take four actions. Make it so that EHP = 2,5 * HDO and you have a much better margin or error. Of course, you may want to make some enemies with EHP = 2,9 * HDO or EHP = 3,1 * HDO so that things like equipping that +10 attack accessory has a chance of making a difference.

As a rule, when you have decided the number of actions needed, subtract 0,5 from that number and plug the result into your formula.

Just need a quick opinion...
