Waiting for 'motivation' for your big project? Don't. 'Motivation' is finite, fragile, and unreliable. 'Discipline' is the trait that gets things done.
Well said. Creative energy granted by motivation generally comes in short bursts. You need the discipline to keep going to connect those bursts and turn out a finished project. And sometimes discipline can unearth unforeseen motivation, where you force yourself to start a difficult portion of the game but then get inspiration on how to make it work easier or better.
I agree with this status! Motivation comes and goes, and when it comes game dev is fun and great and wonderful! But game dev is work, and sometimes you have to slog through the unfun parts. That's where you need discipline.
Building discipline is harder than getting a burst of motivation, but it's way more reliable!
