FLYINGJESTER'S PROFILE

I am the Jester.

I make games using JavaScript, C, C++, Mercury, Java, Assembly (amd64 and UltraSparc) and Python. I used to use Sphere a lot, but I'm more into C/C++ and Mercury nowadays. I still use JavaScript and embed it sometimes, and I usually use Python for build systems and system management.

I wrote TurboSphere, which is a recreation of the Sphere Game Engine with a number of major improvements. I'm not really working on it anymore.

I'm surely going to finish making a game someday. I mean, sooner or later, it's bound to happen. Right?

Oh...
In that case, I meant to say, uh...I'll just go back to being obsessed with obscure programming things then...

Why don't more games use half-precision, 16-bit floats for lighting and UV mapping information to preserve a high-dynamic range while using less bandwidth? OpenGL and DirectX both support it, and all AMD and Intel CPUs made in the last five years have dedicated hardware for half-floats too...

So I actually used my health insurance for the first time today.

And I really had to consider what it would mean if I had poor or no insurance (my insurance is pretty good). It's kind of sickening that money can be what divides getting good treatment and having to make sacrifices that cause permanent damage to your body.

Is the "what are you thinking about" thread really locked just because LockeZ has a different opinion to other people? Would people really prefer a community where everyone agrees with one another 100% of the time? What is the matter with you, darlings?

Holy hell, how did this thread get so many posts in such a short amount of time?

When you're unsure about something, would you say you are...CORFUSED?

...I'm sorry, I'll just go home now :|

A Halloween Horror

The graphics and file loading routines for my game are done. I'll finish up the interface this weekend, and then begin making content next week!

The problem is all these squares can't handle my rock-and-roll attitude!

Is there a language name for RM2K/3 event script?

Succinct and truthful. I would absolutely agree that OOP languages are *superior* forms of programming. It would be silly to claim otherwise. But they're definitely not all there is. It kind of reminds me of people who say that the Queen's English is the *only* English, when reality clearly demonstrates otherwise.

The functional programming fans would disagree that OOP is clearly superior :)

There is a relatively strong push away from some of the more questionable aspects of what OOP has come to be known for, and it's mostly coming from functional languages groups. As an example, functional language paradigms allow for encapsulation, but without inheritance, and interfaces totally decoupled from data types not only allowing for but enforcing complete type erasure.

Object-Oriented programming is far from the definition of programming. On top of that, the form of OOP provided by Ruby, Python, C++, Java, etc. is far from the only kind of OOP, anyway.

I just discovered there's a wiki all about file formats used by games:

At last, something to feed my unnatural obsession with obscure archive formats.

I'm as responsive as a Snorlax

You know how I avoid being banned?

I follow the rules.
