Any Mature/Adult RPG Games?

Nobody has mentioned Planescape: Torment yet? Probably the most intelligent RPG I've played so far.

So as we move closer and closer to Jan 20th

Still, the president makes a lot of public appearances, necessarily.

Honestly, the hard part isn't killing someone; it's getting away with it. Granted, it's a hell of a lot harder to shoot the President than anyone else, but still, it's not as if they're going to be carting him around in the Popemobile all the time.

The Israeli Palestinian Conflict.

According to current estimates, it seems that about 880 people in the Gaza region have been killed so far, with just over half of those being civilians, and over half of those civilians being children.

Just for contrast, Israeli deaths appear to total about thirteen.

(Also, as far as injuries go: 3,490 Palestinian, 119 Israeli.)

I'm not saying Israel should lie down and take a government sitting next door possibly chucking rockets at them during "peacetime" (if such a thing can be said about that area) and vowing to slaughter them mercilessly, but I think it's pretty clear that something's fishy about all this, and that Israel is probably being really reckless, and honestly, there's probably so much bad blood that Israel is almost as bloodlustful as Hamas at this point, at least to the extent that they're probably willing to go overkill in the matter. The way I see it, if the deaths on your own side number so few, you can afford to be a lot more careful when shooting bombs at the opponent.

A friend of mine also knows someone (non-Hamas and a civilian, of course) who was recently killed in one of the Gaza bombings by Israel.

To give more perspective, in Gaza, 8 U.N. foreign aid workers have died already. To make this point more clear, the number of U.N. foreign aid people Israel has killed in this action number well over half Israel's own number of deaths incurred.

Obviously the Palestinians and Israelis would each be giving their own biased views/numbers of all this, but a lot of this information is coming from U.N. sources.

Oh, I forgot to mention: Four of those Israeli deaths were from friendly tank fire.

What are you craving right now?

Ciel: So does being in a relationship mean you can't admit to being attracted to females now? I'm confused about that.

Anyway, my answer: good Thai food.

Midi's Versus MP3s

It kinda depends on the game type and graphics etc. imo - sometimes mp3 music can be over-epic for the medium.

This is exactly why I am hesitant to promote unabashed mp3-age of RM games. If I'm playing a game graphically comparable to SNES or 2D PSX games, then I'd want a soundtrack that fits that. Sure, PSX games could stream music, but none of your bigger RPG's did.

As I've said already, an MP3 doesn't ever *need* to sound different from an equivalent MIDI. Using digital audio recording gives you MORE freedom to make something sound like it's coming from an SNES or any other sound hardware, since you can use whichever tools you want. Hell, you could probably compose something for the SNES itself and use it if you found the right software.

What annoys you in a game?

I honestly have no idea because I don't actually know Japanese. However, Japanese is a rather different language from English, so opting to translate things literally is usually a bad way to go in the first place.

I have to disagree that an RPG should leave you feeling satisfied or that it should feel like a conclusion. Some great stories can leave you feeling almost cheated and conflicted. Watchmen was a great example of that. It not only took cliches and made them convincing but left you feeling really conflicted. Of course you can do this really badly and just look needlessly open ended. It still has to make you feel like the time put in was worth while.
Yeah, I admit I was making an overgeneralized statement. Obviously, any rule can be broken if you do it right. It depends on what actually works for the game.

I hate the sentence "That...that is..."
Prominent in all things japanese. Have you ever heard someone say that as a multipurpose expression of disbelief? Another example is "He's just like him..." or "Could it be...?"
This is a result of bad translation more often than not. Japanese has very different grammar, so different sentence structures work and ambiguous/cut-off dialogue works differently, so a bad localization can give you things like "Why... it's..." and "But he's already - !" and so forth.

Classic anime characters
I'm pretty tired of character with triangular noses. The worst thing is these medieval societies seem to always have great stylists that allow them 4 foot spikey blue hair which stays perfect at all times. "We still use primitive melee weapons but we've invented VO5!" Who says just because you're riding into battle you have to look unfashionable?
Add to this girls who seem to preen themselves runway-fashion style before battle. You don't need to curl your hair before battle! What the hell is wrong with you!

What annoys you in a game?

Agreed, although I'd say the amount of epicness involved is more important than how long it is, but you'll probably agree there.

The thing is, if a game is story-based (as most RPGs are basically interactive fiction), the end should have good dramatic payoff. The time you spent shouldn't be met with cliches, "Congratulations!" stillframes, or half-assed endings. It should feel rewarding and final.

What annoys you in a game?

You only like very specific types of RPGs, don't you?

What annoys you in a game?

Er, that's my point. :P

The "one" I referred to which requires a big team and budget was the option where you build everything from the ground up yourself instead of making rules to generate it.
