GENERAL_HEAVY_H_METAL'S PROFILE
I'm Mike. I'm go to a music school. I tell myself over and over again that I'm going there to learn new musical skills and build a network of people which I can slowly build a steady music career off of even though I know deep down what I really want to do is go there, start a band, get famous, piss people off for the fun of it and break stuff.
Aside from that, I can totally believe it's not butter. Stupid margarine jerks think they can fool me? YEAH RIGHT!

post=149052post=148910you didnt explain your criteria for sophisticated harmonic language
Ya, I believe pretty strongly that having a musical background does not therefore give you more authority to say what is "good music" and what is "bad music." If you like a tune, then it's good, regardless of what the "elite" think.
So with that being said, I'm not trying to argue that it's wrong to like that SOTN tune, I'm just saying that it's really not all that particularly complex or notable.
Doesn't mean it's bad or good :)
also liking garbage means you're ignorant and unable to distinguish quality works, an uneducated person's haphazard opinion does not somehow imbue a poorly crafted work with effective design
that is just a modern bourgeois mentality that allows the uninitiated to receive praise and compensation for mediocre work because the culture they have built renders their laziness and utter lack of virtue unassailable due to the convenient 'subjectivity' clause
I think all he means( Or if not that, at least all I meant in my comment, although now that I think about it I could have worded that comment differently) is that a musically educated person can still have bad taste and make bad music. It's not an absolute.
However, that's certainly not as likely, but it's still possible, I should think.
And aren't we supposed to be talking about videogame soundtracks instead of discussing the merits of a musical education anyway?
What are you jammin' too?
What are you working on now?
Working on a soundtrack for a game called Runic Cipher. Never done a soundtrack before, but the designer liked my samples, so why not? Gives me something to do over the summer.

All I know is
A) I dig that tune, and
B)that being a super-advanced musician is no protection against being a tasteless boring fucknut( READ: Joe Satriani).
That being said, if you're a musician, there's some stuff you hear that non-musicians don't( Depending on how good of a musician you are.). I mean, I'm no classically trained superscientist, but if me and my buddy Zach were listening to... say, "Lookin' out for #1" by BTO, I could tell him " Man, I love that chromatically descending chord progression he's got going on there." and he wouldn't have a clue what I'm talking about.

Best RM Games you've Ever Played
Haven't played enough to do a top ten, but my favorites so far have been Love and War and... some game I played when I was, like, twelve called " Reality Breakdown" that I liked. Don't remember much about it, other than I liked it. Then there was a sequel to it. I liked that one too. It was all RTP, but I didn't care much. I was twelve.
Least favorite: QUINTESSENCE.
