Quite sure the features ( including the multi-platform support and much improved character generator ) got devs mouths watering. So you really can't blame them.

This always happens when there's a new version. The real reason people move from one maker to the next is that they are regular procrastinators who will never get their game done and porting it to a newer engine is just another reason to delay the game indefinitely.
All of those are perfectly valid reasons. :P
