Wanted: writers, designers and artists to create RPG
Most everything that needs to be said has been said but I'd like to add that you might not want to go into a project having no idea what you want to do. At the very least, set a goal on game length. Is it going to be a short 30 minutes to an hour game (start to finish), an epic 10 hours of questing or something in the middle?
Since you have never made a game, start to finish before, start small. And I mean REALLY small.
A small, completed project will be a lot better for your portfolio than a smattering of unfinished rpg's. The one completed game not only shows your skills as a game developer but your dedication to a project as well.

RMN Chain-Story
"Leave 'em Book," said a saloon girl, laughing by the door. "He ain't gone learn nothing if you coddle him."
Puffing up, the gunslinger took a few steps to the door of the tavern before slipping in the trail of mud and water he'd been making. While the girl laughed loudly, Book, the shop owner, sidled over to help the pitiful man to his feet.
"I don't need no help, dagnamit!" the gunslinger shouted, shaking off the helpful hands.
"He's right Book," the girl said, blue eyes twinkling, tone mocking. "He's more than able to make a fool of himself without anyone's help. You plan on trying to cheat Ol' Red in a drinking game next Stranger?"

Tactics RPGs!

I also like Heroes of Might and Magic IV. The map editor makes it possible to create games in a very easy way and play the various scenarios.
That part was pretty cool. It reminded me of the city-building game Emperor, where you could also make your own campaigns and scenarios. Both excellent games.

Request: Faith and Emmie in a bar. Emmie is causing some sort of mayhem and Faith is trying to get her out of the bar to protect her from herself. This could possibly be how they meet, but doesn't have to be!
It does sound kind of like Emmie. She's prone to causing mayhem. Perhaps a rousing bar-fight breaks out when she tries to start another chorus of 99 bottles of bear on the wall!
