I'm up to Mercado so far and am having a great time. I could feel how painful animating a lot of these sprites must have been, and I'm really admiring the level of polish that you've put on all the visuals and the customized 1v1 battles. Superb.
There's some good and some bad to my mind as I play. But I can tell you two things right now:
1) I'm really happy that you've put all the little goodies and new areas across the map in addition to the traditional locations. They may not amount to much, but in a game as bare bones as Dragon Quest I they go a long way to making the world more rich and letting players scratch the exploration itch. No future games had as interesting or expansive world maps as I & II but they were so empty! Hidden landmarks and items were the touch most needed.
2) I'm disappointed that you can't throw torches or holy water at enemies. It was a very negligible feature of the GB version but there are so few items as it is, best to give them as much versatility as possible for the additional fun factor.
Question: Does the Death Necklace exist? I don't want to go rolling dice to find out; was just curious.

I downloaded this on a whim two days ago and apparently the full version just got released. So hooray! Congratulations!
I can't speed through games like I'm a kid anymore but I'll give it a shot and let you know how it goes.

Holy moly this was six years ago.
I had a sudden longing to come back and reminisce on all the hard work. Good job, everybody who worked on this.
I'm an old fart now working 11 hour days. We need a new hard-ass around here!

wiat. there's a newer SMBX engine?
Yep. Its here. Folks over at raocow's talkhaus helped make it. They've got professional programmers.
You need to know Lua and a link to the API page, and then you can make pretty much whatever you want.

I blame 2.0.
It's partly this, but mostly no promoting I'd say. Wait till April.

I'm thinking about one final hurrah for SMBX. a sort of end of an era kind of game, at least for me, to send it off
Better make it in 2.0! I'm waiting for v2.4 so chucks are added.

That's what this game was for me. Future iterations will be in either 1.4 or 2.0.
I tried 1.4, I wasn't a fan. 2.0 is not as user friendly but you can accomplish infinitely more.
Don't try to port this to 2.0, make a new game instead! Cuz if you try to do the former I guarantee you'll end up doing the latter anyway.

I really love the extra scenery at the level goals. I wish I could have helped with those instead of making a silly level!
And I want to say - Serenity Jungle turned out very nice in the end.
