JAMESSERX10'S PROFILE

Greetings! I'm Jamesserx10, a game designer using RPG Maker VX. I've been using the RPG Maker programs since RPG Maker 2003, but have never posted any of the games online, until now with the project I'm currently working on. I'm just a typical designer looking to become better, my goal however, is to take elements of Western RPGs and JRPGs to make a match made in heaven of the two. Hopefully I can achieve that one day.

Mapping Techniques (Yes I read the other forum from start to finish)

Ok, recently my game was denied (No problem, I pretty much saw it coming the instant I starting looking at other games on the site) however, my most surprising factor was the reason, it wasn't the battle design like I figured, however it was the mapping (which I kinda suppose it was coming now that I look back on it). I read the other forum on this page further down, about map design. However that I don't think is truly the root of my problem. I believe the root of my problem is my TECHNIQUE, I know what makes a good map, I know what makes an environment interesting, my biggest problem is the ability to bring what I see in my head to life. Now I'm not sure if it's just that the basic RTP with RPG Maker VX is to limiting, or if it is my own skill. I watched the RPG Maker VX tutorials, looked up and down Game Design & Theory forums, checked the Help & Support forums, nothing seems to be able to help me out in this situation. I desperately want to be able to make a quality game, however I need some assistance here.

Any advice/techniques/any other resource, of help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Uber Quest: The Hunt for Phatter Loot Episode I: Deutsch Titel Machen Uns Sehr Kuhl

The more I look at games on this site, the more I'm amazed at the creativity of you guys haha. Clay? That's awesome dude.

What are you thinking about right now?

Praying that my game profile gets approved, and thinking of ways to make my game better, just today I added ATB system to it...But I still feel its not enough

Impossible Video games

I don't know if anyone mentioned this game yet, but that's because I just skipped to the last page, but

DEMON'S SOULS!

I know some might think it was easy, but hey, I thought FF13 was undoubtedly easy, however I hear some say it was hard, so maybe its just I'm weird.

...Stupid Red Eyes Knight...Bad memories!!

Worst videogame character.

Vanille in FFXIII, maybe its because I just finished the game like a week ago, but I swear her voice annoys the living hell out of me, not to mention that stupid thing she does with her fingers, including the fact that she stays pretty much static and is used mostly as just a reason to piss of Sazh for a little while, and it wasn't even that long!
But all in all, that's all she is to me, a plot device, not a character, not a person I cared about, not a character I EVER wanted to use, and only did when I couldn't switch her out of the party, and a character I never wasted a Phoenix Down even in a bad situation, just because I wanted her to stay down.

I'm totally not a crazy person. I just really didn't like Vanille.

A simple designer with a simple dream

Haha everytime I check back at this board I get more people welcoming me, its really cool to have a inviting community such as this, thanks again.

Final Fantasy Essence

Favourite Food

I we really talking about this? lol this is funny.

Favorite Food=Teh Nachos. They reign supreme...Wait. No. I take that back, Chuck Norris reigns supreme, Nachos are merely the tool he uses to control us all. Or at least me.

2D or 3D?

post=132153
people have mentioned that gameplay should come before graphics. 2D or 3D it doesn't matter. I personally cannot imagine a game like Spyro in 2D. It would just blow, in comparison. Nor could I see a game like bomberman in 3D. It would be a pain in the ass.
Depends what kind of game you're going after that should determine the graphics.

I agree with Dudesoft, think of several games out there, no matter what the genre, could you really imagine games like Halo or Modern Warfare being in 2D and still holding the same charm gamers find in them today? Or conversely can you really see a great 2D game like Odin's Sphere (I think that's what it's called, forgive me I don't have my videogame magazines in front of me) in 3D?

I personally find 2D to be have an advantage over 3D with regard to gameplay. A much more simplistic system in 2D games can still be great and long lasting (just look at the original Mario games). However 3D reigns supreme with regard to level design and in turn, because of having more detailed environments, normally offers better backstory ("normally" being the keyword, don't flame me if you think of another 2D game that does a better job).

Party Size

Eh when it comes to larger parties, I've always liked the base four members party, mostly because games that do this usual flesh out the characters quite a bit. However when it comes to large parties, which can be great, the biggest problem is if you just make them blank slates. Like in FF7 or FF8 where all the characters had little or no variation in stats and they were built completely by how you did it in the game. Which can be boring since then you'll just use your three favorite characters instead of changing the party to the situation...I.E. Cloud w/ Materia spec, seriously, buff guy with a giant sword using magic?? Just weird...
