I have been paying exactly zero attention to it. Though, that's pretty typical of me.

Though, it's also true that I'm running through the PS1 original.
i was trying to detach myself from it but it's too primal to avoid
Anybody know if this guy are still gonna be sick?

Wait... Isn't FF7 going to be remade or did they cancel it?
No, he's just upset that they've changed it a bit.

Geez, obviously it was never going to be the same game. Getting all in a huff about it is just silly. I'm going to get it and enjoy the fuck out of it despite the changes because I want to see how they upgrade things and what stays the same. An improved script, for one. Graphical changes for another. I'm looking forward to what they do with the gameplay - it was never going to be the same battle system and if you expected that then you're very silly.

... How is it silly to expect the same or similar battle system in a remake?
I have no qualms with this remake of seven.

since I've long given up the idea that square enix makes anything I'd want to play anymore.

Remake, not remaster. Now that I know they're making the gameplay fun, I'm interested in buying it. If you want to play the original, they're not confiscating your copy of it.
it's probably best to think of them as separate games over our usual definition of a remake. since the project was revealed, they've been clear in their intentions to prioritize what feels best for this project here and now over accuracy to the original game. we can't reasonably expect anything from the first to be there in the second, no matter how much we loved or hated it.

Uh, because technology and the ideas of what makes a good game has changed so much over the years that expecting old ideas to stick around would be insane? Especially when you're talking about Square who have always taken chances at new gameplay elements instead of sticking with the old? It'd be very silly to think they'd keep the old battle system in when there's been so much learning and improving done over the years since the game was created - the game industry has grown not only in technology, but also in ideas and ability.

It'd be like expecting a remake of, say, Hero's Realm to be exactly the same if it were made in MV. Things are always going to change when there's new technology and even if it weren't in MV, kentona has grown as a developer and would change things to incorporate the new shit he's learned over time. It's just the way things go - get better at stuff and learn more, new things are going to be different even if they're similar in some ways to the old.

Compare new jRPGs to old ones and you can see the difference. Hell, just comparing games in a series to each other tells a tale. Old sensibilities are done away with - FF1 is very different to FF7 because over time they learned new techniques. They learned what worked and what didn't, what needed to be change and what was too frustrating to keep. The same will be between FF7 and FF7:R - things have changed a lot in the way devs design and the more frustrating parts are going to be done away with while new ideas will fill in and refine the old ones - or out-right replace them altogether.

Expecting the same game with the same systems is very silly. Get hyped for the new.
