What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

I thought I should play more of the critically acclaimed video game classics - I did try a few, where I liked some but not others.

Super Metroid is amazing. Not much need for talking about it. Only the entry to Maridia is pretty unintuitive.

Final Fantasy is something I couldn't stand. I tried all of 1-7, with most of them having the same problem: All of the games were terribly drawn out, partially bad with conveyance about where to go and completely devoid of depth AND challenge. I also saw pieces of X-2, 12 and 13, which didn't help at all.

Space Invaders is interesting - while the game is massively simplistic, it's surprising how challenging and exciting it was.

Grinding in RPGs

I probably talk about something that already has a topic, but I'm probably gonna get a warning for thread necroing, so here we go:

What shouldn't be discussed is whether grinding itself is good or bad, but rather which aspects of grinding are and why grinding is fun in one game and not in another.

To have some discussion basis, I provide a few things people commonly grind for:

Levels: Probably the most iconic form of grinding. As most RPGs provide Experience Points for battling, some players choose to fight enemies frequently to be able to increase their levels with them. With that, there's usually a stat increase that improves your odds against the enemies. While beating enemies can be done indefinitely, most games provide a level cap that makes further grinding for experience points useless.

Money: Mostly related to the above. This time, you look for a resource you can spend on consumables and equipment. Money grinding inherently has diminishing returns as you buy the good weapons and armor and only have consumables to spend it on. However, large reserves may be useful for later use.

Boosts: Levelling up doesn't just give you stats - sometimes, the desired result for grinding is a new skill or even a new form (Pokémon and Fire Emblem have that). This is generally more limited than levels, as those boosts tend to be less frequent.

Common Drops: Repeatedly beating an enemy that drops a certain item often or always. Usually, it is required to collect several of those to complete a quest, finish a crafting recipe or simply stockpile them as they're usable in battle.

Rare Drops: Related to the above. On the plus side, you only need one of these items. The catch is that the enemy only drops this very rarely. Most of the time, this is a powerful piece of equipment.

Rare Enemies: Kinda like the above. But instead of a rare item, this very enemy shows up rarely. It is often searched for one of the above, a fun battle (WarMECH, for instance) or for 100% completion.

Enemy Traits: Some RPGs allow you to learn your opponent's abilities, so you seek out an enemy who has it. However, this isn't solely related to that - you may want to experience a certain effect of the enemy's attack, maybe you even want that enemy to fight on your side.

???: Feel free to mention any kind of grinding I haven't covered yet.

Design Your Nightmare!

Grinding is not a binary thing - grinding materials in Terraria is rather interesting as you know exactly when you're set and can move on to either grind elsewhere or to take on a boss. It only becomes a chore when the rewards for grinding are spaced out - for instance, a single level up in an RPG usually isn't that useful, making all experience points other than the one that levels you up feel pointless.

However, we can talk about grinding in a different topic.

Your favorite music from the 30's, 40's, 50's

I don't want to set the world on fire~
I just want to start a flame in your heart~

I know it's brought to a large audience via Fallout 3, but the song is still great.

Other than that, there's Powerhouse from the Raymond Scott Quintett.

(related to song kinda)

Sorry Shulk, I'm not really feeling it...[serious talk]

I suppose the only help you can get is consulting a therapist, as I suspect you having a clinical depression. Helpful advice isn't going to be useful for you in that case.

TPP could make fanwork illegal?

Guys, I've already seen posts like this for years in the internet, multiple of these claiming the law successfully passed and a whole bunch of other things that will be made illegal. It's nothing but a conspiracy theory.

Card Games on Motorcycles

The act of banning cards isn't a bad thing if you do it right, like Magic the Gathering - the banlist is kept simple by having a binary system (Banned/Not Banned), except in Vintage, where those cards are limited to one per deck (Sharazad, Chaos Orb and Falling Star are still banned).

It only gets a problem because tournament holders make quickbans at the first sign of imbalances - instead of figuring out ways to play around strong decks, they just wait for the banlist to make their move. The banlist is also too slow to unban cards that have been power crept into meaninglessness (I tried it, Gateway of the Six is too weak to handle Qliphs/Nekroz/Tellars even if it were at 3).

As I said, I hate the original series for lackluster content outside of the card game as Yami Yugi has no personality and secondary protagonists (other than Joey a bit) don't get any screentime. GX is great, 5Ds is wasted potential and ZeXaL is terrible in a fun way.

Upcoming Game (mechanics) Discussion.

There's a Yanfly Script that lets you add custom costs to skills. While it requires a custom formula in it, the script does offer the formula for making a skill use items as a cost - you could make limit breaks like you imagined with it.

Furthermore, I don't think you should avoid making a huge world map - just get a better tileset so you have a more varied environment as VX Ace lets you only use grass, dirt, sand, rock and snow as surfaces (and not even variations of those). One idea would be to have several continents or other greater land masses and you use a special traveling system to travel between them. This lets you use multiple tilesets for the world map and also allows you to cut down your maps easily if you decide that you don't want any more.

Regarding the fuse system: Will it work like in Shin Megami Tensei? In those games, demons have a level (which is their base level rather than their current level for fusing) and an attribute (Fairy, Beast, Tyrant, Lady etc.), where you have a table that determines which attribute you get from the two you combine (not all are legit). The demon you get is the lowest levelled one of that attribute that still outlevels your components - but you need to be his/her level to actually summon it.

Conquest is gonna be painful to make - you pretty much have to make every map that can be conquered multiple times - once for each faction that can claim it.

I thought those lanes are specifically built for Riding/Turbo Duels - there's far more roads than actually necessary.
