Video game discussion! Here! Now!

Yeah so in the last week I managed to finish up both Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Master Quest and Dragon Quest IV along with a quick run through Eggerland, and I was having a rather productive week until I looked at my PSX memory card. As I mentioned earlier I had planned to finish Breath of Fire III and Valkryie Profile however I had learned that I recently lost half of the files saved on that particular card. I also found that I have two copies of almost every one of my surviving files. Fortunately almost all of the important files currently saved on my memory card survived, but unfortunately I did lose a few in progress files that I would've wanted to keep like my file on Final Fantasy IX. I also had the misfortune of losing my second file of Dragon Quest VII in the mishap as well. So now I'm currently changing my plans a bit.

First off I'm probably not getting any of the new games I had mentioned before for awhile since Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is too far off to be considered a Near Future release since Final Fantasy XII and Heroes of Mana are so similar I'm only planning on getting one, as for Heroes of Mana itself $40 is to steep of a price to pay and there are better and/or cheaper alternatives. As for Master/Dragon Quests and Eggerland I believe I covered my reasons for taking them off my list. And with my only usable PSX memory card in it's currently unstable state that rules out BoF III and VP. This leaves me with Super Robot Wars: Original Generation 2 as the game currently on my list, but I've also decided to go with Xenogears (I'm nearly finished with it anyway), Sudoken III, and maybe either DQ II or DQ III. I was also considering a second playthru of Fire Emblem IX as well but I doubt I'll get through it before summers end.

I'm always impressed with the level of detail they give to some of these characters especially with characters that are otherwise very plain to look at in other games.

For those in need of a quick history lesson the game where this little blue fiend comes from was the first (and probably so far the only) Nintendo developed and produced game to ever be considered too graphic for the US market. It was because of this game that every other game that had to come through on a Nintendo platform had to be censored to remove any images of religion, sex, death, and other such nonsense. And this trend continued until around the GameCube era where things have slowly but surely loosened up. Though Nintendo's production position still hasn't changed all that much.

Honest Question

To each their own. I suppose.

As a game it might make it's way onto the list even though there are better versions out there this is the one everybody knows and while you can make better games not everyone will play it. But as a concept that is otherwise known as Tetris it could be considered to be one of the best games thus far since no matter what form it takes it's still Tetris and yet at the same time it can evolve and become more than just a GameBoy game from 1990.

Random Musings or Rants

I have to agree with SD2 being generally better than SD3. Along with the points afore mentioned there was the exploration factor SD3 couldn't inherit from it's predecessor. What I mean is that with a field/dungeon you could go into a room then you could leave that room head down the hall and into another room that looks exactly the same as the first. In fact almost every room looked like a gross of other rooms in the game. With the increased level of art used in the game it just made it look like a lazy effort. The rooms, halls, and areas were short, small, and busy. And there were many dead ends and trapped rooms which required you to fight your way out.

Whereas in SD2 you had much larger areas with more complicated layouts and things like landmarks to identify your current location. One example of this is the road between Potos Village, The Kingdom of Pandora, The Water Palace, Neko's Shop, and the Canon Travel. The fact that you could go to five different destinations from a single area without any breaks, side roads, or otherwise doesn't happen very often in RPGs in general, and this happens a couple of times throughout the game. While I'll admit that the game is overall very liner it's not easy getting lost even the caves are more than the same two or three rooms connected by several copies of the same tunnel (even though I am exaggerating I'm not exaggerating by much). There are exceptions in SD2 as well of course namely in the desert and a few other areas but it doesn't happen often.

Anyway I think I've rambled on enough on this subject for one day so I'll leave it at that.

Right now I'm looking forward to getting Legend of Zelda; Phantom Hourglass and either Heroes of Mana or FFXII Reverent Wings.

As for games I'm currently playing right now. My time is currently being divided between Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Master Quest) which I've started three days ago and I'm currently between the Dodongo's Cavern and Lord Jabu Jabu's Belly (I'm namely playing this since I haven't touched the game since I got it back in '03 and I wish to alleviate myself of the shame of using a Strategy Guide during my original play through of the game back in '98-'99), Dragon Quest IV which I started about two weeks ago and I'm currently wading through the Final Cave (I've had this one sitting in a corner since last summer and I figured it would be a good time to try it out), Breath of Fire III which I started about a month ago and I'm heading for the Volcano for the first time (After staring at me for several months I decided to plug this in again and get it out of the way), Valkyrie Profile which I started about six weeks ago and I'm currently wrapping up the first chapter (Unfortunately I don't think I'll have the time to finish this during the summer I might not even get it done till the next summer), and Ogre Battle 64 which I'll admit I started earlier in the year and if I recall correctly I just started the third chapter (I'm still on break from playing this game but I should be getting back to this soon I hope)

I'm also thinking about breaking out Super Robot Wars: Original Generations 2 soon if I need some handheld action. And also playing thru Adventure of Lolo after I finish up DQ4.

The newest Brother of the Super Smash Brawl is that nameless male pokemon from Pokemon's FireRed and LeafGreen or more accurately his three pokemon Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard.

My biggest questions about this are...Did anyone see this coming? Did anyone even think this might have turned out like this? and What are their Final Smashes going to be like? (My guess for that last one is probably going to be one of those one for all and all for one events)

Ninja Edit: Will the above Pokemon appear from the Pokeball items or will other Pokemon take their place?

Well now we have our first NEW contender since Snake back in E3 06 and everyone who guessed that it would be Ike from Fire Emblem's 9 & 10 give yourself a pat on the back. As for everyone else "better luck next time"
