MATTDK'S PROFILE

I've been an on and off indie developer since 2001. I got my first start with the rpg maker on the sony playstation. I began to think to myself, if I could do this on the computer it would probably workout a lot better and some people might actually get to play the games I make. One google result later, I had found rpg maker 2000 by don miguel. Went by the alias 'dkall' for years. hated by many due to my past indiscretions, but hey that's life. Not everyone's gonna love you, no matter how beautiful you are. I'm a diehard Dragon Quest fan, but I got love for Final Fantasy as much as the next guy.

I'm back now, and working on games with RPG Maker VX Ace, with the intent of releasing commercial games that are cheap to buy (less than $10 titles) but provide a huge amount of quality for their price.

Since we hopped on the healthcare topic, I just wanted to point out to our friends down south that Canada does not in fact operate on a socialist healthcare system. It is a public insurance option, which we like to call universal coverage. There is private insurance. We aren't socialists. The only difference between our healthcare and yours is that everyone here is insured, they cannot be denied coverage, and there is accountability. If someone was ever denied their universal insurance and died as a result, instead of having a private corporation getting away with murder, we would hold our provincial government(s) responsible (public insurance is administered on the provincial level). Additionally, people who make certain brackets of income (forget the specifics right now) or whom don't file their taxes, are billed for their health insurance.

How is it that many other democratic countries have multiple parties splitting the vote? Canada has 4 (or 5, if you count the Green Party), Germany has around that many, etc etc... The USA seems to be an anomaly in this respect.
I like Canada's system - We don't so much get a choice on who will be Prime Minister, but we do get to choose the level of support for each of our parties. Everyone votes on their local guy, which boosts support for that party - then depending on that influence the parties are assigned a number of seats in the House. The parties themselves get to elect who will lead them, and the party with the largest influence gets to have their leader be prime minister.

This - however - can backfire, as so many votes can go to the other parties, it can occur that all the other parties combined will have a greater influence than the ruling party, and if they can agree they can stop the Prime Minister's legislation.

Exactly what occurred just recently. Harpers minority government, aye? And then they called an election because they were getting stonewalled in parliament and unable to do anything - and the election resulted in a minority government again, but with a few more reps on the Harper (conservative) side.

So, if you write in a third-party candidate, it's a throw away vote... but if you don't vote, it's in "protest"?

Either you're enabling people or you aren't. You can't have it both ways.

Well in reality, they are both one in the same. A third party vote is both a throwaway and a protest, and not voting is throwing your vote away in protest.

You can always vote for third party candidates... yeah, they don't win much, but if everyone doesn't vote for them because they don't win much....

Their position is never fairly advertised. They are seen as a 'throw away vote' because they never get fair time in the media. Ah, the greatness of a democratic society that's binded with a monetary system.

Thought I'd weigh in. This stuck out to me. You made me think of george carlin. If I don't vote, I'm not responsible for putting that man in office. Fuck political process. Its a protest of how perverted the system has become, where you are left to choose between two candidates that have a few differing views, but sustain the same overall views and principals. Think Zeitgeist Addendum.
1 - That's excusatory bullshit that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

2 - You vote for more than just candidates on election day.
1- its a protest on a broken system where you must conform to voting for one of two candidates, or not have your voice heard.

Go, watch Zeitgeist Addendum if you haven't seen it. Particularly chapter 2, starting around the 25 minute mark. Full version is on google video.

It's people like you that make Democracy not work. You have absolutely no right to complain at all if you do not vote.

Whats the worst thing you ever saw in high school?

Dumbest thing I ever did - I got the idea from trying it at home first. You know that hot glue, for art projects that you use glue guns for? Well I was messing with a small one at home, put the hot glue on my hand (by accident, the first time) and to my astonishment, it cooled down and hardend and didn't even burn or hurt! surely, I was the super glue man or something! So the next day in woodshop class, I proceeded to grab the large, industry strength gluegun and try the trick. First degree burn on my left index finger. I lost my title as the super glue man hero that day. Every day you learn something, that day I learned that industry strength glueguns work a little hotter than the homeuse ones.

Awesome thing I saw - There was this ignorant piece of shit when I was in high school, and I mean downright not giving a fuck. Picking on everyone. Popular, known, with a small circle of friends, but would pick on anyone smaller then him. He got jumped in front of the schools trophy display by 6, lets call them 'nerds', who had had enough. They really beat the shit out of him good. I remember teachers trying to break it up, but the crowd of kids surrounding and watching pulled the teachers out. It took them a few minutes to finally break it up. <omitted text, too specific>

Would have been fucked if it was anyone else, but that guy more than anyone deserved it. Watching those 'pussies' beat the shit out of him felt like justice was being served.

Our district had a policy of 'punishing only the offender'. The security cameras happened to be blind to that specific area, and everyone who saw the fight claimed he had started it. The teachers that (tried/got) involved did not see the start of it all. He was on his last leg already, so he was expelled and had to come back the following year to repeat grade 11 while the rest of us graduated.

Justice. He kept to himself after that. Getting jumped by six people who you've called 'shrimp ass pussy nerds' for half their lives probably has that effect.

rm2k level cap

Well I suppose the simplest workaround would be a custom level-up system that used 1 variable for each, hero, and leveled them up as they gained EXP. Keep in mind the game in question is using mainly default systems (dbs, dms). There is that increase level command that can be used so yeah. And that way, there would be no tedious stat layouts as there would be in a fully customized leveling system. Just 1 variable for each hero tracking exp gain, and then conditional branches to use the raise level command when requirements are met.

The only problem I have with this, is I just can't see how the level-up messages could possibly be displayed after a battle. They would have to be handled by a common event, and displayed outside of battle, which is... Unusual.

rm2k level cap

Well 50 isin't enough in bigger, longer games most of the time generally.

and yeah, though a custom system would be 'easy' it would be quite tedious indeed. Also, you wouldn't be able to have the level up messages at the end of battle (assuming you use the DBS) now would you?

rm2k level cap

Is there any patches that bypass the rm2k level cap of 50 and raise it to 99? Or alternatively, is there any way feesable to bypass this? Yes there is the command to 'raise level' but does it raise stats as well?

I was unable to find any specific information on this with googling.

I'm hoping I can have a level 99 cap as rm2k3 does.

If there isn't a way already, then I can use resource editor to raise the numerical cap on the max. level field, which would work in theory but you'd also have to raise the cap on all stats to 99 (and anything over 50 naturally wont be visible on the stat points 'wave' in the hero tab of the database). I will do this, and test it out if it hasn't been done already, but I'm hoping there is another way.

So...?
