I'm a 32 year old cartoonist and animator living in Los Angeles. I played around with RPG Maker 95 about a dozen years ago, but these days with VX is the first time I've really used it again. Pull up a seat and say hello! I'm really excited about writing some photoshop tutorials for the site.

I'm still trying to figure out the parallax backgrounds, which is tricky since I can't open VX anymore. But many of the town streets will look something like this, where you can only walk left or right using the giant sized boss sprites. Some screens are crossroads, so you can move up or down. Some of the actual dungeon maps are more traditional in being able to walk all around, but toon town and some dungeons feature this side to side look.

I've always thought of the game as having a lot of purples, but you're right that's not really showing in the screenshots yet. It's traditionally how we show "Evil" (tm) to kids, but thinking about how colorful the world is going to be it's actually strayed pretty far from that. I saved my meager CSS attempt but I'll wait to paste it up until I figure out what colors are going to end up in the images to either side of the body. It's the party, so that will be a pretty important color scheme to cater to. I guess I'd better get drawing! (Thank you for your link by the way.)

Wow that is a handy link; some parts get a little Greek for me but Chaos put his tasty "commonly used" bits at the end. Very handy! And he's dead right, I do only need the 2 or 3 most common codes. Like my game I'm cheating anything fancy by just doing it in photoshop and linking to images. You'd be surprised how much you can get away with through that if you're programming "averse." Or to use real estate speak, "deficient adjacent."

By the way, what size does the image have to be to fit around the page?
This is what I'm trying to figure out now actually. I'll let you know what I find, unless someone already figured out the magic pixel numbers?
