I'm a 32 year old cartoonist and animator living in Los Angeles. I played around with RPG Maker 95 about a dozen years ago, but these days with VX is the first time I've really used it again. Pull up a seat and say hello! I'm really excited about writing some photoshop tutorials for the site.

I played it on easy... XD;; Then again... I usually do. It's like... easy mode is made for me.
I'm right there with you, especially now that I'm getting older. I'm getting no end to the grief of playing Bayonetta on easy now...something about "not appreciating the robust combo system?" :) I just stumbled across Lux last night and was really impressed by the video. That's some really good character animation too...good enough that if I was still at my last job I would have hired someone with work of this caliber. For what it's worth I wanted your animator to know that. This will be a treat to play. I see that a lot of folks use Game Maker here, which I haven't tried; I've only ever used Games Factory for my actiony things. Does anyone know if Maker is preferable, or are they pretty much the same thing?

Always love characters with two different color eyes. And I was just playing the Ghostbusters game and Ray's got it too...did I somehow miss that in the movie?!

I need to play around with photoshop more...I'm loving VX's improved bit depth but my nice transparencies in photoshop 4 turn into jagged outlines in the engine. The swirly backdrop doesn't help, my own locations should hide some of it. But as an artist I am irked. Updating CS4 to 5 soon, maybe it will handle my PNGs better...it's crashing on my pretty much constantly.
Game Gale Edition Now Available
Playing it now inbetween photoshop tasks for a client. Wish they'd stop pestering me...I'm loving this game!

While I definitely wanted to make some sort of RM game for my portfolio, my first one was actually going to be a side scroller Alice in Wonderland game made in Games Factory (or Klik & Play when I was growing up.) I actually only switched gears when I hadn't gotten my paycheck yet, GF didn't have a free trial period and RM did. :) But I digress, I just meant to say that this image caught my eye on the main page because it reminded me of an Alice, and impressed me greatly. This artist folks seem to know about is pretty impressive. And believe it or not, I never really heard Lolita before I played The World Ends With You, and I had to wiki it. Then again I'm not a guy, so I guess it just passed me by :D

Also, this only happens to me with 3D FPS games, since older graphics make me nauseous as I walk around.
I think sprites hold up a looooot better than polygons. Whenever I think about getting something from the PSN or Live store, I see the screens and think "...Oh. Right." I can still play Final Fantasy 1 or Dragon Warrior 1. But FF7 is incredibly hard for me to look at. It's a little easier on the PSP, because everything's smaller. But the old graphics (which were of course revolutionary when I first got it) especially on a large tv now, I can't even tell what I'm supposed to be looking at. And Tifa, you were so pretty...*sniff*

Right now that's just a still. I have a whole animation planned out for it, but I'm not sure yet how that would work in VX without tons of coding. I was thinking using spell animations, but I think there might be a size limit. I was thinking about importing a movie, but even if you can I'm not sure if you can in battle. But basically that shows up in the Demo version, I want to finish everything as stills before I go back and add animations. Otherwise I'll never get done. :D
Raiders of the Lost Arcade
I can't play Final Fantasy, or Dragon Warrior because either the gameplay mechanics are TOO oldschool, or the graphics or music make me want to pull out my hair.
Haha then you should stay away from NEStalgia (http://www.byond.com/games/SilkGames/NEStalgia) though Kentona would probably like it. I loved the graphics, it was the lack of character customization that I've become spoiled on. Knowing that my cleric would be exactly the same for the next four levels, and then learn the next healing spell and it made me exactly like every other cleric, was just too much to keep at it. But I give them mad props, this is exactly what I grew up with. In this regard, I think Breath of Death VII (http://www.destructoid.com/breath-of-death-vii-seems-an-amusing-novelty-171844.phtml) is very successful...it mixes the old gen graphics with some actual customization for the low low price of one dollar.

Beautiful, simply beautiful. Have you tried the same exact screen against a lighter map background? I guess my question being, is there enough opacity in the menu? Because it looks like night time but it's very readable now.
Always love to see any game where Aim and Speed are completely different things.

Oh sure, SSI used to make all the Dungeons and Dragons computer games. Countless adventures that really all looked the same, but they were the front runner to the strategy RPGs you see so much of now. They used to be called "Gold Box," at least as slang, because all their D&D packaging was the same color. Looks like they made Buck stand out from the pack.
I'm right there with you on King's Quest, and might humbly add the Quest For Glory series. And that first game even *had* a graphic remake, to address this very issue. It was just years ago and raised it from 16 colors to 256. :D
