I did really enjoy the ending a lot, thanks. It came as a surprise to me and I really liked it. Nice job! I submitted the review, so if it gets approval it'll appear on here sometime over the next few weeks.

Thank you for explaining it all to me! That's helped make things clearer. Some of those is what I assumed could be the case, but I still wasn't certain. There was just a lot to your story so I wanted to understand the bits I wasn't sure about.

Also thanks for explaining the way the game changes.
I think I got the most powerful skill.

About the trees, have you tried to fade out the screen just before teleporting the player to the next map and then fade in the screen after? Maybe wait a few seconds to fade in the screen? That way the trees may just appear at the same time the screen loads for the player? It's a shame the engine does this, but it's not a big problem as it is.

Thank you so much. I look forward to reading your review. If you have made any suggestions, I will be sure to take those into account and aim to make a better game.

I will see if fading in/out of the map will make any difference to how the parallax images are loaded.

Anyway, take care and thx again.

Hi, I can help you but you need to upload the save file (found in the save folder in the www folder of the game.) into your locker on this site. Click your username at the top, then click locker. Press upload, choose file.

Sorry for posting so much, I have finished the game now and started the review. I just have a couple questions about the game itself that I feel don't really fit in the review.

My questions below. (If any of these are me jumping ahead and to be answered in other games in the series instead of now, then that's fine to not explain them for now).

About the Gods and Goddesses or higher beings.
1. I understood that Ankhanessa was the main goddess worshipped in Eso and the Holy Empire. And I understood that Isis was her mother, but why was Ankhanessa the foundation of the religion instead of her mother, Isis? And what about the other children? Why are they not also important to the religion, I guess what I'm saying is why was Ankhanessa solely the main influence for the religion? I thought it was Isis who defeated them not Ankhanessa, and if Ankhanessa influenced it during the war with Apos, weren't there 4 other younger children with her? I did not understand that part. When thinking what differs her from the others, I realize she was the next in line for the throne though, so I thought that must be it, but then I'd assumed Isis would still be the main one the religion would be founded on? Isis is in a few dungeon puzzles though.
2. I understood that Apos is the main god worshipped by the Chaos Imperium but is he also Chaos, and Chaos is another name for Apos? Or am I lost there?
3. How did Akon fit into all this? Is Akon a shorter name for Ankhanessa or is she/he a different God? And I am right in saying it was the apocalypse war that came before Isis and her children fought against Apos? I think?
4. I didn't know anything about Silvia other than the dungeon puzzles and I realized it seems all the main characters religions are on her, Silvaity, I think? Is that religion the same as the Holy Empire one or is it different? What is this Goddess stance on Apos and Akon and Isis and Ankhanessa?

About possible secrets and possible hidden areas in the game.
1. In the museum was there a way to look at the statue that the man was blocking? If so, what would've happened?
2. In the huge town, where you had to talk to the Zuko captain from the knight HQ, there is a sheep blocking the upper most floor. Is there a way past it and if so what would've happened?
3. Same huge town again, in the market district right at the top of the first entrance there is an embassy from some place else, is there a way in there? If so does anything useful happens?
4. At the beginning you're told Lucretta's decisions will affect the rest of the game, in what way did that happen? Were there right and wrong choices? If so was life sacrifice the right choice?

About the hints page.
1. For most of the game I was able to resolve the puzzles, though some still provided a bit of a challenge, but the more detective themes, the persuasion points, when you get into the town I found a little complex, so I had to look at the hints page for that in the end. Just for the hints on persuasion points, number 5 said "Buy the potion from the woman in the library.", I didn't see a library in the game except the one in the Chancellor's mansion type of house, and I ended up getting the potion at the entrance to the museum after spending a lot of time exploring everything I could think of. So I don't know if it's possible to get it in some library first and then later it's in the museum, but if that's the case maybe add that it can be in the museum if you miss it at the beginning? Otherwise say it's an the entrance of the museum? Or museum library if that's supposed to be the library?

2. I did not look at the hints page for the gallery pictures right away, but I was able to get them all without hints except the one at the lighthouse, and I think I did explore the top of the lighthouse and interacted with the fire, so did I miss something or did I have to be there at a certain time later in the game or was it a bug? Just curious to know.

And what would the prize have been if I had collected all the gallery pictures?

Most of these mechanic related questions from a developer's feedback point of view will be in my review so I'll write those then.

Edit: Sorry forgot to add I had no problem with any crashing in the flying dog inn and I think I've played Version 2.01, if that's the latest.

But in the forest area where you get Anya, after saving and existing/entering maps all the trees vanished for 3 seconds and it suddenly looked bland and empty and then the trees all popped up at once. It only lasted 3 seconds so I didn't bother me, but that happened. I think it happened one other time in the game much later as well, but I can't remember for certain. My memory may have gotten a bit confused. If it did really happen, it was another field so I'm guessing it was the Gorge's Peak area.
Congrats on finishing the game. Hope you liked the ending.
About your questions, I will be brief since there is a lot to get through, so I will get to the point.
1. The Ankhanesian religion was founded in the year 0 when Ankhanessa was born. Although Akon is the most powerful, he is not in charge. Neither is Isis.
The key principles of the religion is based on Ankhanessa's birth and death, and her resurrection (the events of the game).
The throne is passed on through the eldest daughter of each generation. That's why the other children of Isis is mentioned less prominently.
2. The Astral Plane is split into order and chaos. Chaos is the collective term of where all evil dwells, with Apos as the supreme being.
3. The apocalypse war is something that ended the "modern" world. It was Akon and his kin that saved it from the chaos and revived humanity.
4. This isn't fully explained in the game but will be further explored in the sequel. Akon is Isis' father, so he is Ankhanessa's grand father. Silvia is Isis' younger sister who is the founder of Silvanity. Akon has other children who are founders of other minor religions such as the dragon god.
About possible secrets and possible hidden areas in the game:
1. To get to the glowing orb in the museum, speak to the professor then interact with the object that looks like an incinerator. He will move out of the way to tell you off. The glowing orb gives Risa an upgrade to one of her skills.
2. The sheep is there as a joke.
3. I was planning on doing something for the embassy, but it did not fit in to the story so it's just there to populate the city.
4. Lucretia's decisions set the based crit rate and elemental resistances for Risa.
The final answer mind/health/life determines the move she gets during the final boss battle. Celestial Starburst being the most powerful.

"Buy the potion from the woman in the library."
The building is a library, museum and a shop combined. Sorry if it wasn't clear in the game.
To get the picture in the lighthouse, you need to face out of the bottom of the glass window to look outside. Once you have all pictures, you'll get a HP regenerating item for the boss fight.
About the trees not appearing for 3 seconds, that's just how RPG MV works. The engine was lagging and could load all the resouces in time. I used to have a preloader plugin which loads everything before the player enters the map. But I got rid of it because it made the game crash.

Hey, great game! I'm almost done with the whole "John" event, and so far, here are some comments/suggestions.

Suggestions:

(1) The birthday code's year should not be that of the current year, unless John's child was literally just born (but Emilia's diary says otherwise) - I tried a lot of combinations, but never with the year "64", since I assumed the child was at least 2+ yrs old.

(2) Anya's "Tornado" is extremely powerful - too powerful for 200 MP. Since it's at least as strong as Karys' 800 MP mass-ice attack against 3 foes or less, I'd recommend making it at least 800 MP cost. Less spammable.

(3) Journal should contain more important information - Especially in the "John" scenario, there are a lot of things going on at the same time. If I take a break from playing, and come back, I'd like to remember important milestones/progress I've made by reading it in the journal.

(4 - Battle mechanics) Early on bosses (and a lot of regular enemies) should be buffed, IMO. Specifically, the "Ogre Boss", the "Shadowbat Queen", but also most of the bosses in general.
They should do more damage (for instance Ogre Boss does very little, and even late in the game, damage output from enemies was quite low), and have some "surprises" in store, in the form of buffs/powerful attacks.

You did give a lot of enemies debuffing/status inflictors, which was good.

Further, Marius was very well done as an early boss - had strong spread attacks, including an M-ATK buff (that surprised me). More like that.

Overall, in RPG MV, the fights tend to be much more drawn out and lengthy - as a result, it's not that bad to give bosses strong area attacks and powerful buffing skills (or stacking boosts).

Still, keep in mind that I did not find the battles "too easy" at all - it was more like I was rarely in danger, and just had to get the win (except against Marius, who I was on my feet the whole battle).

Comments:

(1) I love the aesthetic of the game. Brilliantly put together. You see a lot of very choppy maps, and it just ruins the experience, even if the battles are well balanced.

(2) The character development is also very good. Very involved and in-depth.

(3) Overall, a very addictive game, with a good story that keeps moving along. Since it seems like the story is about to end with Risa still in the most western area, hopefully there will be some sequels to come.

Thanks for the feedback on my game, and I'm glad you're enjoying it. You're nearly at the end.
About the safe combination. John changes it every year after his daughter's birthday so he wouldn't forget her next birthday the following year. So the next one would be "65" if you decide to wait long enough in the game.
I am working on a sequel for this game and the battles will be more complicated with more surprises. I will implement your suggestions on this one, and when I have time, I will have a look at this game's bosses as well.

How do you get into Johns house. Its asking for a code.

The answer is 31542. Emilia's diary would've given you this with one number missing.

Hey I just want to let you know I've been playing through this game, Version 2.01, for the last few days, and when I finish it I plan to write up a review.

I really really like almost everything about the game, it's really well done and amazing really. Almost every aspect of it is very strong and makes the game experience very enjoyable and wonderful.

My only main thoughts of improvement are on the battles themselves, they just feel odd to me the way they are handled and I feel they could've been done so much better then what they are like right now, but I'll go into more details about everything I think and feel about the game after completing it.

Good luck with your sequel too, I subscribed to both game pages on here as I'd love to stay updated on how things go!

Thanks for your comment. You are quite right about the battles feeling a bit odd.
This is the first game that I made using RPG Maker MV, and I was still learning about the features of the game engine and what it could do. There are some things that I would've added in this game, but I will be adding it to the sequel instead.
Thanks again for playing. I look forward to reading your more in-depth review.

Just dropping in to compliment the first game, out of a dozen similar-scale local RPGs i tried recently JttE was my favorite, in terms of game design choises and the amount of fun had. It's excellent overall, smooth experience and fantastic atmosphere.
I have the utmost confidence in the sequel now that your gamedev levels have gone up. Hope your games get more coverage in the future, they definitely deserve more attention.
(also if you ever in need for some second hand help with scripting or sound or whatever else just shoot me a message)

Thanks for the compliment. I will definitely going to aim to make the sequel better than the last game. I will let you know if I need any help with scripting or sound. Thx.
