Infinity IV: Gameplay Footage #3 - Battle & Quest Demo
author=CashmereCat
Really cool. I know that you're gonna tweak a few of those visual aspects, but I like that you're putting as much content down as possible before you start polishing. Just in case you want some feedback on the visual polishing, however, I'll just outline some points that I think would make the game look even better. The gray text is blurry and difficult to read, so perhaps removing the outline using something like Yanfly's Message System script would be nice. That, or you can change the colour back to white with a black outline. Battlers facing you can be replaced with side-facing battlers, but I'm guessing you're doing that later too.
Overall, it's a really nice system and I think that you should keep laying down functionality before polishing it. You keep reminding me that creating as much interesting gameplay is possible is key, because too many project polish as they go, I think. Thanks for the update!
I used mostly all of Yanfly's scripts in Infinity 3, but this time I'm only using scripts I need to make the game simpler. So far it uses the save script, and I might switch to the message system script as well.
The side-facing battlers I probably won't switch to, since that requires some graphics work. I will probably just stick with what I have, and maybe work on the battle system.
:)

author=macbloauthor=NickI know right! I really need to start saving up for a 3ds.author=macbloPS: MUDKIP! Makes me want Pokemon ORAS even more.. been waiting for remakes for a decade.
How you ever though of using sprites instead of battlers?
Same. I always said to myself, that the ONLY game that would bring me back to Nintendo.. would be a R/S remake. Depending on what we see of the new games, I might have to buy a 3DS or a 2DS. lol

I've considered it, but right now they are placeholders until I can focus on making those kinds of changes. In all likelihood though, they will remain the same.

Developer Blog #2: Mining, Cameras, and the infamous HUD
author=nhubi
Ok first of all, yay for the HUD, sorry I'm not a fan but you knew that.
Now the mining, is the top axe going to be able to mine all three or will you need a bronze, silver and gold axe in your inventory in order to mine all three? I'm assuming you're not going to use real world information here, because well you can't mine bronze, it's an alloy, you have to smelt it, and silver is harder than gold and bronze being an alloy of Copper & Tin is harder than both so the hardest axe would be the bronze one.
You'll need all three to mine them all. And of course it's not going to be realistic, since the game does kinda take place in a fantasy realm of sorts. It's never made clear where exactly the series takes place, but it's definitely in it's own reality.

author=nhubiauthor=NickRight, well better win that fight then. Though if they die, does that mean I get to keep the boat?
Either the player and the two characters won the fight, and the player parts ways with the two characters, after getting paid.. or they lose the fight, and both characters are murdered in cold blood, and you leave with your life.. with no payment.
Yep, the boat will remain at the docks. So it essentially becomes abandoned, hence yours.

I like the idea of a questing companion, a retainer of the person who sent you on the quest to keep you on track, or the quest giver themselves. That's an interesting dynamic, especially if the choice isn't always yours. Like a high ranking official ordering you to go do something and keeping one of your regular party members as a hostage to ensure you comply, but sending one of his own men to accompany you. That's cool.
So far it's being used in one particular quest, where the character who gives you the quest will follow you (and will give you his boat, hence unlocking the rest of the game world), and as you move on to the area where you need to go quest-wise, you'll pick up another character.
So the player is free to then avoid the quest, and take these two NPCs around the game world, and even have them fight alongside the player in battles, or even hunts. But of course the main goal is bringing them to the next map, where the quest continues. But it's not being forced onto the player. They can go there at their leisure. :) Once the quest is over, there are two outcomes.
Either the player and the two characters won the fight, and the player parts ways with the two characters, after getting paid.. or they lose the fight, and both characters are murdered in cold blood, and you leave with your life.. with no payment.

That's a nice boat, but it looks a bit 'Viking' for an oriental based game. Maybe a junk sprite would be more appropriate.
That ship has yet to appear in the latest version so far. It's been replaced by a small boat (named The Lady Butterfingers, I might add). The ship might appear again later into the game. As for the oriental theme, it's a mix match. Street lamps and other graphics from Infinity 3 are carried over, if they look good enough to blend in with Infinity IV's new graphics.
