Something happened to me last night when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go. I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky. It was moving irregularly. Suddenly, there was intense light all around. And when I came to, I was home.

What do you think happened to me?

Vacant Sky Vol.1: Contention

Just a heads up. I'm working on a rerelease of Act I that'll include the new dll file out of the box as well as a few graphical and music fixes. Not much in the area of new content, but there might be one or two new sidequests.

The best modern RPG Maker games?

I feel like a jackass recommending my own game, but feel free to check out Vacant Sky. I put a lot of my effort into fleshing out the world-setting. It's a roughly 2-3 hour play-through.

I appreciate critique, even if it's "I got bored in the first 10 minutes and quit."

Thanks much for the review. :) I hope more people choose to submit reviews so that I have in-depth criticism to study for work on Act II.

Go to the downloads page. There's a fix for people with that issue.

Harvesting boxes didn't work for me at 30 harvesting skill. Other then the one in the beginning. Which is set to give you a belladonna.

The world would be better fleshed out if your game were more of a game then a very slightly interactive movie/story. The only reason this is an issue with this game is because there is a lot of effort in game to make the player earnestly care about the world to begin with. The game is just too watered down in all of it's aspects save for the story.

How can I explain it? Ok take Diablo 2. Now make it so you only fight once or twice a town, delete all the items save for a few really crappy ones, make it that you cannot build levels, and there you go. Watered down.
Thanks for playing! I'm working on the Harvesting bench problem... they worked in testing, so I'm trying to figure out what caused it.

I'm very well aware of just how linear the game is. It was a problem I realized several months ago and spent a while thinking about how to resolve. In the end, Act I was so far along in development that I just wanted to put it out rather than push it even further back. Fortunately, Act II's structure is completely different. It's set up similarly to Knights of the Old Republic in how there are a number of major locations you must visit, but in any order, and each one has its own sidequests you can work with.

Yep, it was just added to the index. I'm planning to repackage the game in a v1.1 with the new .dll file after I finish catching passability errors.

This was pretty awesome... the ending pretty much left me in the dark though, when to expect the next episode? 2011? :P
Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed. We're shooting to have Act II done by January 1st.

I played an early version of this game (I still have it, it has different facesets more anime inspired), all I remember it was full of bugs toward the end of the demo. I will try this game later.
In light of how buggy the demo was, Act I went through the better part of a week's worth of beta testing by several people. The only real bugs that slipped through the cracks are some passability errors here or there.
