Something happened to me last night when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go. I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky. It was moving irregularly. Suddenly, there was intense light all around. And when I came to, I was home.

What do you think happened to me?

First of all, I haven't finished Metal Gear Solid. >>;

I understand your point, but I think you're missing what I'm getting at. I'm intending to have it so that after you beat the game (there is a New Game + feature), it unlocks all the new story options. However, I want people who have played through the original already to be able to go straight into the new story routes without having to replay the main scenario if they want to. In the hypothetical option asking you whether or not you've played the game before, it won't change the ending you get, it will just enable the choices that normally aren't enabled on a first playthrough.

I can't think of an implicit method in the game that will enable people who have played it before to unlock the new options, but if you can think of one, that'd be great.

I was always wondering where that avatar came from...

I had thought of that originally, but it seems unnecessarily complicated and makes little sense in-game. What about the choice doesn't seem like a good idea? It'll simply be recommended that new players say no and specify that it won't adversely affect their gameplay experience.

Earfbound

I wouldn't worry about it too much. With RMN games, you can't really expect a huge storm of attention the moment the game is released unless you have a lot of people interested in it already. Just maintain constant visibility and over time, people will gradually start to notice and talk about the game.

Upcoming Title Change

Is it really necessary to announce an announcement? Why not wait and make the blog post when you're ready to make the announcement?

I Hate RMVX

Back on topic...

If VX had better sprites I'd probably already be using it. It's ugly as hell, so I don't. Higher resolution is nice, but not when every game for VX looks exactly the same.
That's why I prefer XP. I find that there's not a significant difference in functionality between XP/VX, but XP's visual style and mapping system is far more aesthetically pleasing to me (although that's just personal preference).

EDIT to reply to ninja-Versalia:
My question is what, exactly, are you trying to accomplish? Impressing other people who make games as a hobby? Good for you. Trying to make a commercially viable game that you can make money off of? Good luck to you.
If I had to wager a guess, I'd say what he's trying to accomplish is to see people make better games. Making any reasonably complex system in an event-based engine will set you back a significant amount of time, time that could have been invested in other features or in finishing the game and starting on a new one.

On Name Changes and Pretentiousness

author=JosephSeraph
What if I had my own character named Amelia since I was, like, 8, and then decided to make a game with her? I wouldn't, for nothing in this world, change her name, because she'd be >my< Amelia. And If I find out a protagonist of a rather famous RM game is called Rose, I won't change her name, because I have *my* rose, I love *my* Rose, and I'm not going to let anybody change her name because there's another rose. One with brown hair and plastic clothes that sells opium in some sub-developed street of a bustling city or something. (i.e. just because there's another completely different character that goes by the same name.) imo.
imho.

I wasn't insisting the character's name should be changed. I meant to bring it to his attention in case it was something he wanted to avoid.
