Game Drive Week 08
Wow Lennon, way to go! First game page is up =D
To everyone else, do not be disheartened. Games are started and restarted all the time arond here, it doesn't stop things being released, at least not all the time.
I'll be honest, I am wanting to make a Streets of Rage/ Final Fight/ Turles in Time styled brawler for XNA, but that involves either kicking my coder friend's arse big time or learning C# and then XNA - and I have never programmed before.
For this Game Drive, I'll most likely just make a tradtional RPG in RM2k3, but at the very least I will try to use custom graphics.

Somebody talk me into/out of this
I'd say that custom graphics is something that's completely down to you. It IS a lot of effort, but it has the major advantage that someone will be able to look at screenshots from your games and say "Hey, that's that guy! I loved his last game." It also helps you stand out against the slew of RTP and rip games and it is good practice.
I say go for it and enjoy it. Even if you think you're crap at it, keep going!
And yes Tardis, I agree, this topic has been... Refreshing.

Game Drive Week 08
I was half tempted to say take a break for Christmas, but then I decided we've all been taking too much of a break as it is. I mean, we've not even had screenshots yet and were almost a third of the way there! So yeah, those of you who have time off for Christmas, do something to your projects!
Game Drive Week 07
So, today it's time for a discussion over engines (Craze, calm down). I noticed in the last topic that I'm not the only one going back to the drawing board. Originally I was gonna stick with my trusty RM2k3, but I then played in XP and VX and began to doubt I could achieve my desired effects in either program.
I then considered Game Maker 8, and was willing to learn proper coding for the first time in my life, until it struck me that if I'm willing to learn to code for GM8, why not learn something like XNA? OK, it's ambitious but it feels like a far more concrete decision with a better route for distribution.
I'm currently torn, and am considering signing up to a subscription based website to learn XNA coding from video tutorials, doing things the way I learn best, learn by example and learn by doing.

Game Drive Week 06
That looks pretty sweet. Loving the old school vibe. I myself am guilty of thinking of returning to the drawing board to perhaps make a horror game. Not an action adventure with a horror tone, a horror game. Something weird and messed up like Galerians (fantastic game, if you've not played it, shame on you! The sequel, Galerians: Ash was complete shit, but that's besides the point)
