The Great Switch: Why VXP is Better

WolfCoder, simply doubling the size of everything isn't working in 32x32, it's working in 16x16 and blowing it up. Like PepsiOtaku said, it causes unsightly inconsistencies and my preference is to work with 2k3's 320x240 and 16x16 when it comes to graphics

The RMN Comic Collaboration - Act 2

This thing won't be finished for like, years, will it? XD

The Great Switch: Why VXP is Better

I jumped to XP originally but jumped back again when
a. I noticed features from 2k3 were gone
b. I didn't get get RGSS
c. 640x480 and 32x32 tiles? I preferred my 320x240 and 16x16. I really like low end sprite work and I feel it gets somewhat redundant when you take away the 256 colour limit and could probably get away with drawing stuff with atablet - where are the challenges and limitations and fun to that? (Yes I'm being deadly serious)
d. Battle view was head on again and I wound up badly implementing RGSS scripts I didn't really understand to have a side view system.

I gave VX a go too, it's still sat on my desktop with XP, but again, it didn't feel right for me.
a. One Chipset? ONE CHIPSET?! Yes, I know there are patches, workarounds etc, but damn did that piss me off.
b. I couldn't get used to the mapping. The engine seemed to be second guessing what I wanted to do and making assumptions. In some cases, yes, it was handy that it assumed I wanted my bridge to appear over the top of the lava, but it felt awkward and as if I was constantly battling with it the same way I battle predictive f*cking text on my phone!

I guess 2k3 is my comfort zone. I know what I'm doing with it, for my current project it's meeting all my needs and while I'd love to get involved with some of the crazy awesome limit breaking boundary breaking stuff you can do with XP and VX I want to finish what I'm already working on first.

Game Drive Week 03

I really like YDSs main character. Kind of has a Wizard of Oz/ Pans Labyrinth feel to it. I also particularly like the idea of three kids that don't want to turn 13.

My main character is a soldier and works in a party of three. He's well known and respected for his heroic acts and battle prowess. He begins to doubt the morality of his orders however, and notices inconsistencies in what he hears from his superiors, making him dangerously suspicious q out how the country and it's military are being run.

Game Drive Week 03

Apologies for how brief this post is. Just finished work and I'm in a bad area for Internet. I've decided we kinda need a thing each week to keep everything moving along at a nice pace and encourage discussion, this week we want to know who your main character is! Where does he come from? What drives him? What does he look like? I'll post my own when I get home, either as an extension to this post or as a reply.

RPG Maker 2009 Ultimate

Hm, definitely gonna give this a go. So, aside from making the UI more friendly and adding some convenient shortcuts and functionality, what's been overhauled? Can RM now handle, for example, more Parallel Processes without lagging?

Game Drive Week 02

I don't know which RPG Maker XP communities are even still going I'm afraid =/

I've done scratch made sprites for ym first scene, on top of a train. Posting them here and asking people to please not use them. They've been put together in this video (ignore the RTP hero, he's a placeholder)

(YouTube link doesn't seem to be working for some people. If it's broken for you too, you can download the raw video here:

Any feedback is greatly appreciated as always

Game Drive Week 02

I've finished planning out Arc 1. When I get home tonight I'll do some more mapping. Going to use stand in RTP for the characters until I can be added to sprite them. Got a good idea of how I'll make the battle system work too so I might start fiddling with the database and setting that up

Game Drive Week 02

Reminds me of Dead Rising where food items can be raw, cooked or spoiled. Dont take that as a "What an unoriginal idea, don't do it" I like that system and depending on how it was implemented it could be quite cool
