SLASHANDZ'S PROFILE

I'm Josh, a 19 year old college student. I've been messing around with RPG Maker for years. I tend to prefer the classic "fantasy, anime, swords-and-wizards" RPG's. I also usually lean towards lighthearted comedies over serious tragedies. But there are some exceptions: Lun Calsari's "The Way" is actually one of my favorites.

Game Gale 2010
comment=30925comment=30902As long as you submitted before the deadline you have nothing to worry about.
I submitted the game yesterday, but it still hasn't been accepted.
I hope I don't miss the deadline over this. >:\
Wait... I think I may have misunderstood.
The game was submitted to RMN before the deadline. It is currently pending.
So... when it's accepted will you guys review it? Or am I out because it was not accepted by RMN in time?

Game Gale 2010
Game Gale 2010
I'm somewhat confused on the deadline.
The rules say "The contest with begin at May 1st, 12:00 AM GMT and end at 12:00 AM GMT on May 16th"
The details say "Ends 05/17/2010 07:59 PM"
And the big bold line at the top says "Game Gale has been extended until 12:00 AM GMT on May 17th, 2010!"
Three totally different times. I'm sorry if this was already asked, but when is this due?

Looking for feedback on my RPG's storyline
I thought this topic was abandoned, but I just checked back to find all of this great advice!
Thanks a lot everyone!!
For the Stasia/Anastasia/Ana name, my current idea is to introduce her as Anastasia, then have
the party start calling her Stasia for short.
And I like the idea of a familiar NPC becoming the villain. I'll need to write such a character in, but
it does sound better than an unknown evil.
If you have any other feedback, please let me know!
I'll consider everything, and try to make this RPG the best I can.

I've noticed a small typo; Right in the beginning, after Stasia joins your party it says that 'Staisa' has joined.
Thanks for pointing that out. It'll be fixed next release.

@Max McGee:
Two good points. I'll need to come up with some way to make Josh stand out
from the other blacksmiths. Or maybe I could make it that the other blacksmiths don't match the vision...
As for the character names, they're all named after people I know in real life.
Still, Stasia is quite a bit less common than Josh and Eric. I see what you mean.
Thanks!

It sounds like a pretty simple and straight-forward story, which is fine for a short, light-hearted project.
As with anything, what becomes of this depends on how it is handled. What the characters are guided by the plot to have to do is less important than why the characters are actually doing it. What motivates the characters to set out on this quest? How do they feel about each other? What are their personal goals and ambitions?
I have not played the game so I cannot say to what degree any of this is explored in your demo, but nothing about the heroes is mentioned in the synopsis, just a list of things for them to do. This suggests that they are just a group of characters to guide through the games events, but they should be people, grow like people, and feel like people. Make sure to spend some time developing the party, which is likely to be a big part of what will make the game enjoyable.
There are a number of useful articles on the subject of character writing in the site's Writing section. If you need some tips for that, I would suggest checking them out!
The review for this game also had some complaints about the game's mapping. If you wish to improve your mapping skills, the best way to do that is to check screenshots of other peoples' projects.
I am kind of rambling at this point but the short of it is I see no problems with the story, its just the supporting elements of the game should also be able to stand under scrutiny! RPGs aren't just about battles or just about story, they must have a number of things working in balance in order to create the best experience possible.
It might sound a little intimidating, but every minute you put into working on any part of it will make you that much better when you work on it in the future!
Wow, this is some of the best advice I've ever received on this website.
I really appreciate it, and I'll definitely make sure to keep everything in mind!
