Wanda - Update First few minutes of gameplay (screenshot)

Well, I missed hearing from you guys. The art is certainly nice, and a welcome change from the brownish DarkEnd screenshots. Having said that, there are two key points I need to mention:

1) How can your robot think itself alone in the world if the very first screenshot shows three robots just like itself inside those pods? You should have an answer for that clear for the player, since it can really impact on the immersion otherwise.

2) (The main point) What exactly is there to separate Wanda from other projects that are post-apocalyptic/centered on loneliness besides robot protagonist and the artstyle? If I were to name commercial projects exploring similar themes made in the last five years off the top of my head, you would quickly run into well-acclaimed titles like Nihilumbra and The Swapper, and more that didn't quite make it, like Another Perspective, The Old City: Leviathan, etc.

Granted, their genres are a bit different, but all of those competitors also have much heavier gameplay focus in comparison to yours (besides Leviathan, which is just weird), which only works in their favour in the eyes of a customer.

Thus, I want you guys to succeed there, but I'm afraid that right now it seems too light (story-wise, not tone-wise), too insubstantial to really make its mark in the commercial field. In my view, there needs to be something more unique, some other hook to grab the paying player's attention beyond that cute title screen.

These are very good points.

The game was made and meant to be played with "Show, don't tell" style of gameplay. Everything will built up and reveal to the players layers by layers eventually. It's hard to make this effect in this post because I broke the rule and "tell" story.

Actually, the bots in other pods are "inactive"(dead) and do not respond to the awakened one. The true feeling of loneliness struck the bot. There were similar bots like it out there, but no one can make contact with it.
The story is meant to be tangible (tho there is a risk that it might backfire). The bot has neither wit nor ability to tell the story to the player. It's somewhat plain and simple thing.

We put something unique in game-design tho. It's not a ground-breaking one but it's something fresh among the graphic puzzle/adventure genre. I hope to reveal it in playable teaser.

I like that fallen pillar and glass shattering effects. However, the way toxic pool flows out of the pipe looks obviously painted-on.

True! All maps will be revised later tho. We will fix the flaws once we get to that point :)

To quote reviewing website Quarter to Three, "a game is as long as it needs to be", so if that's the length needed to fully convey the game's storyline and themes without any padding and such, then it's truly the best length. Otherwise, it's up to you.

However, I do have to warn you that you're making a commercial game, and it's typically hard to leave a customer satisfied with paying for two hours unless it's truly great and/or the price is sufficiently low. I'm not saying that it's impossible, as A Bird Story, for instance, did manage to sort of succeed with charging people for an hour of playtime.

I said sort of, because 66 critic Metascore and 7.4 user is hardly everyone's definition of success: here's the link, which I hope will show you the existing expectations for this kind of game, and thus allow you to plan accordingly.

Ah, yes! Thanks for the warning.
We'll be really careful with the pricing and overall quality of the game.

This looks quality so far. However, how short is "short"? I mean out amongst the commercial games, it would normally be used to describe games from 4-10 hours. Here on RMN, though, it tends to define something that can be finished inside an hour, so it would be good to give an approximate length above.

We aim to make it about 2 hours long, more or less. Too short?

It's a great concept. Though I'm a sucker for anything with post-apocalyptic wastelands.

Keep on keeping on!

(btw not on this page but in your game description in the Games list, your text is cut off:
A short and simple, yet unforgettable tale of two wanderers on their adventure in search of the meaning of their existence in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. On the same quest, the two form an unexpecte
Might want to trim it down some, maybe after "wasteland")

Ah! Thanks! Going to fix this :D

I remember this movie. Wall-E, yeah?

Yep, a lot of comparison with Wall-E. Some mentioned, Beymax and some, The Journey. Yes, we took a lot of inspiration from them.

These are some really nice graphics.

Thanks :D
It was our first project with complete parallax mapping :)

But why can the enemies move? And shouldn't you tell the player that!

There is a "press key" icon. I guess this is too small to notice.

I notice the game runs a bit slower than usual(probably due to the recording). The mouse script and lighting scripts used in the game can slow down the game a lot when processing power is not enough.

Especially, the mouse script will freeze the game when clicked on the place where you cannot travel. The script calculate the path and the game slow down a bit usually. It's not really noticeable normally but when there is not enough processor power, it might even freeze the game for a few second.

I think disabling mouse control on a busy computer with so many parallel applications running help.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Slightly above average

Oh! A play-though!

Thanks for trying out the demo.
Btw, near the end of vid, I found out that you cannot move. You need to press a button to make Floor notifier text go away and move.
