Ok, I'm so confused about one of GGZ's rules (which dosen't make sense.)
So this one time me, androdas and Paradigm added a bunch of porn sites to GGZ's affiliates list because they had an exploit that allowed people to inject content into it. Good times.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Mafia
Okay, that's a fair point. My nolynch was because I honestly have no feel for who might be mafia on the basis of today's discussion. If I get time after work I'll see if I can find anything.

CAVE, why are you so intent on pushing a lynch and drawing fire on the people who aren't? I get where you're coming from, but sometimes not lynching on day one is preferable to taking out a potentially useful role too early.

Okay, but you keep saying secret boss. As in, the boss of the mafia? Or, something to be taken care of once all mafia are gone? Independent roles can frequently be helpful to town as long as it is beneficial to them. Unless the mystery role's win condition is to not get lynched at 3-way LYLO, I don't see why this would be any different. You aren't theorizing what this mystery role might mean for us, you're guessing what flavor character it might be, and guessing flavor characters that have clear scum explanations (Gant-Scumcop, Gavin-Scum Forger)
Yeah, I do think Wright could be mafia if the host was creative enough. I've seen PW mafia games where Max Galactica was scum, a game where Godot was scum with Dahlia Hawthorne, a game where winston payne was scum...Wright being scum would make for an interesting story.
Sorry, when I say "secret boss" it's just a catch-all term for an unknown independent. Independent roles CAN be helpful, but they can be equally hurtful depending on who gets them and what they can do. Let's take the earlier suggestion of an independent who can choose whether to be town or mafia; would you want to lynch that person because they might eventually end up being against you?
What I'm trying to do is theorise what the role might be for us by discussing which character it's likely to be. I can't imagine the roles not having at least some resemblance to their character's function or ability. Like if we have Maya Fey I'm guessing she'll be able to talk to the dead in some fashion.
The difference between Phoenix and the other characters you mentioned is that they're all...grey. Godot's murdered, Max Galactica is a jerk...Phoenix is a nice guy and always does the right thing, even when it hurts him. (okay, after the trilogy he was a bit greyer but still).
However, I don't want to bog discussion down in my speculation so I'll keep my thoughts on the secret role to myself. You're right that it will eventually be dealt with one way or the other, I just didn't want anyone to be caught napping when we eventually discover what the role is capable of.

Why do you assume that the mystery player is indeed an antagonist of some sort and not a more benevolent role? Or just a souped up independent?
It also doesn't do us any good to guess what the flavor of the mystery role is. Flavor doesn't equal alignment, for one. Also, I doubt whoever that role is going to claim if we guess the name.
Show me a single Mafia game where a mystery role has been helpful to the town. Just one. Every single time I've been in a game with a "secret boss" they've been some form of antagonist. I'm just trying to stay ahead of the game by theorising what that means for us. If you don't like it you don't have to play my game. :)
Flavour indeed doesn't equal alignment, however the chances that we'd get characters who are heroes/villains in the games that aren't the same alignment in this game are lower than the alternative. Do you honestly think Phoenix Wright would be Mafia, for instance?
(RM2k/3) Skill Requirement
Have the skill turn on a switch. Make a common event that's activated by that switch. Have two nested conditional branches that check for the party possessing item X and item Y in quantities Z, then inside the second branch make your skill do its thing.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Mafia
The first thing I think of when trying to combine secret boss with Phoenix Wright is Damon Gant. My second guess would be Kristoph Gavin. Any other ideas?

One thing we also need to keep in mind is that we haven't been told the victory conditions for each faction. Does town win if they just get rid of the Mafia or do they need to kill ??? and the independents too? The independents could have any number of win condition combinations but usually their only real requirement is that they're still alive at the end of the game. As for ???, I have no idea, but if those of us who've played the PW games put our heads together we might be able to figure it out.
