Hello, I decided to take a short break from my second game and stop by to check out how my first game post was doing. I'm glad to see it is still receiving some attention after all this time.

author=crowlotus
Was I mistaken or didn't this game have an achievement setting? I downloaded the newest version but should I have downloaded the Game Jolt one?

The achievement's system is only available on the Game Jolt version.

Ew. Nothing worse than an RPG that can only claim high playtime due to an outrageously empty but huge map. Also, the whole attacking mini-game is the most annoying thing I've ever seen in an RPG, and worst of all, the damage is only a tiny bit better even if hit all 3 spots on the minigame with no option to disable it because not everyone wants to play your stupid annoying minigame. Oh, and nothing better than having to heal blind and poison every single fight over and over, even in the first battles of the game.

No bueno.

I am sorry this game is not to your liking. That one gripe you have with the attacking minigame... I explained the purpose of the "Attack" command in like the third post of page 1. I said this:

author=Utopiablue
No, its not a bug that was how I designed it. There are only two ways to gain rage points, you either take damage (7 points rage) or you use the attack ring (5 rage per hit). It was to give the "Attack" command more purpose. I have played many RPGs where once you gained a few skills, the "Attack" command became useless because you could just spam skills from then on. So the sole purpose for the attack ring is not so much as a damage dealer but as a quicker way to gain rage.

So, the "Attack" command is completely optional.

Also, the high playtime is due not for the huge map but because of all the quests, sub-quests, events, and story dialog cut scenes. I highly recommend you look at the Walkthrough Guide. If this old school RPG is still not your thing. I am sorry and I hope you check out my next RPG which will be Tactical in nature.

Thanks for playing, bicfarmer! Sorry to hear that you had a tough time with the old version of the game. Was this version the one that didn't have Trader Art at Plains Caravan? If it is then I feel for your pain. In the updated version I made changes to help make it easier to obtain materials and hopefully take away at least some of the grind. And the Difficulty Adjustment makes the game much more enjoyable.

If you want, you can play the newer version of Epic Odyssey using your old save file.
Just download and install the game then copy and paste your save file into the new game folder.

As for the side quests they should all be playable. Check out the Game Walkthrough Guide for their locations and info.

Thanks again bicfarmer, and everyone else who has played Epic Odyssey. Over 2000 downloads! That's awesome!

Now for some news...
I would like to say that I am currently working on new game! It is going to use a tactics style gameplay and the story will take place before and during the Crimson War! So expect to see some familiar faces!

Hey kenlan! I have fixed that bug you mentioned. That was an oversight of mine... didn't expect anyone to warp out while going through that pathway. Now transparency will now be removed if you use any Call Stone.

About the beastiary, if you don't use Domino's "Reveal" skill then the "steal" page for those enemies will not be shown in the beastiary. Only the "drops" page will be shown.

The Frenzy Amulet recipe is there... you might need to do a little reading...

I hope this helps.

Epic Odyssey Review

Awesome! Thanks Sapphire for granting me an extra star for my game!

Before the update, mortal wound would always hit; instant kill one of my characters. If it didn't, then it would always leave the "Doom" effect that would still instantly kill my character soon after. I'm also glad you fixed this skill since it was so annoying for multiple common enemies to use this skill to wipe my party.

So it was "Mortal Wound" you were referring to. It was a pretty nasty skill... I'm glad my update made it less lethal. The "Doom" status affect that it applies can be just as bad but there is a food item you can buy in a certain town that removes the affect. Still, you have to be real quick to use it in battle... I might increase the countdown of "Doom" in a future update.

Anyways, thank you again for the review upgrade!

Epic Odyssey Review

I know that I have at least resolved the biggest problem you mentioned in the review. I have created a difficulty option in the "Systems" menu that should resolve the high evade and critical issue with the enemies.

I just realized something upon reading the part where you describe a battle scene.
You never mentioned about using Phoenicia's "Cure" spell to undo the Blind status.
Using that in conjunction with eye drops would help a lot. Blind only affects your ability to hit them when using physical skills or the "Attack" command. So it is handy to have a spell caster in your team since magic spells will not miss.

-The poison damage in the over world is extremely lethal! A poisoned character with 4,500 hp will go down to 1 hp in just around 10 steps!!!!! Always carry antidotes and magic water so your healer can cure poisoned characters!!!
-Characters with reflect buff will reflect healing magic back at enemies; restore their health instead!!

These two above I believe are not very major issues to me. I think it will make the player more cautious about what actions to take, or not take, when they arise.

-Skills that have cool downs used in the end of the battle will have their cool downs carry over to the next battle
-Restore skill, even when used in the field to restore hp, will be on cool down after one use...

The cooldowns for certain skills and spells are in there because I think they would be too overpowered if used all the time. Especially that healing spell.

-Some common enemies and bosses have one hit kill skills that are horrifyingly accurate!

I'm not sure about this one. Unlike spells, physical skills have a chance to miss or critical hit... if that is what you're saying then that should be resolved with the addition of the difficulty adjustment.

Epic Odyssey Review

Thank you for the review, SapphireFalcon. I'm glad you liked the game overall, despite some issues. I have had some players that told me about the critical and evasion was too high, especially at high levels. I have also heard it was about right... so what I'm going to do is add a Difficulty setting to the game. Give me about a week and I'll come up something.

Thanks for telling me about that plant monster. I will change his elemental resistance as well.

Hello everyone. I have uploaded RPG Maker VX RTP to my "Downloads".
This program is required to be installed if you wish to play any VX game. This will resolve, hopefully, any problems with missing files.

UPDATE:
I originally could not release a full RTP version of my game because the Game Maker would not extract any files larger than 128MB. But today I have learned how to get around that problem!

The new version of Epic Odyssey is now on file!

Firstly: thank you for your work - this game is quite nice =)

I found a rly minor bug (nothing relevant tho): if Zircon is fighting and skill help is enabled he is called Zarkon

and I'd suggest to lower the mp costs of heal a bit - its rly picy, least at the beginning of the game - but may just because of my preference: just walked back to the inn all the time instead of using manapotions ^^

well anyway: thank you for the game and I'm looking forward to your next project

You're most welcome, Mahina! It's always great to hear from people who are enjoying the game.

I have fixed Zircon's name in some of his skill descriptions. I originally called him Zarkon but midway through making the game I decided to change it because it sounded very close to the gemstone zircon.

About the mp cost of heal... I agree it can be pricey in the beginning, but as you level up, the gold dropped from defeated monsters also increases. My goal was to have a balance between going to the inn to recover and stocking up on potions.
Also, you can do this...
Try buying armor recipes from the Armor Shop in Tarsus, Valise, Strata, Nei Borne, and Polaris. These synth armors will give a bonus to your character's mana and other stats.
There is also an accessory called the Sage's Amulet. It reduces the cost of all spells by half. The recipe can be found at Nailum's Fist. There is also a Magic Water Plus recipe (restores 200MP). It can be found at the Orc Camp.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the game!

Heyho! There's an issue in game! When you need to find the 5 kids (side quest) in Tarsus. I had got all the children, and walked to the teacher, and my character DISAPPEARED! If you're moving in this "invisible mode", you can scroll on the entire city map, and you CAN talk to people. I managed to exit Tarsus, hoping the character reappears, but NO. So I went round the teacher and talked to him from his back, and it was OK.

Hi Nagi82. I have found the bug and fixed it. It turns out that if you talk to the children before you speak to the teacher it will cause your character to become transparent and passable. That's because I accidentally left a bit of code in the children's event tab while I was putting together that mission.

I have deleted that code. Plus, I added code to the teacher so that when you speak to him, he will undo transparent and passable from your character.

To everyone out there who has downloaded my game before this post you can either redownload the updated game or if you don't, just make sure that after you found all of the children in this quest that you speak to the teacher first before speaking to the children and you will be fine.

I'm sorry about that. Thanks Nagi82 for letting me know.

Attention everyone I have made a little update to the game. I have increased the drop rates from battles. This should also help make it a bit easier to obtain the materials you need for your recipes.
