GUI Builder

OK. Those would take about a second to implement each. It would actually take me longer to draft out exactly what I'll let the user draw out of the database.

The only problem here is that I would have to implement a way of managing memory. Every first time you draw something out of the database, I have to load it. Going crazy with the GUI builder for those kinds of commands may eat tons of memory and bog down the engine.

But hey, that's not actually my problem. I'll let you play with all the dangerous tools and just warn you when something can make your gaem act funny instead of not let you do anything fun.

In a sense, this is a CBS paradise.

I'm actually going to use the GUI builder more heavily in the weekend competition since there's no battles and the menu isn't even slightly complete yet.

GUI Builder

I think this will single-handedly reduce everyone's custom menu system by like 1000 lines now that you don't have to waste picture slots and copypaste for each digit.

Disco Inferno

Pff, real beat whores play Osu!~

Little Money

Don't make an installer. Just .zip the game folder and send that.

edit:

Edit ninja, thanks though I got it.

The program does matter, it needs to be done in 2003.

Do a quickie, I want to make sure everything else isn't a factor otherwise I might not properly target the specific mechanic.

Little Money

Send me a quickie project that demonstrates this then so I can test against something solid. Mail, PM, whatever.

I believe it does do something... I have enemies in my game that can hurt the player in-field and they are set to "move toward hero". I believe that they stop moving when a message is being displayed if that box is unticked. (but this has been a minor issue for me in my game so far anyway so it might be something else).

Otherwise they keep advancing toward the player during message displays and will get an attack in as soon as the messages end.

They don't when I try it, perhaps I'll check this again. Events seem to continue regardless of what this option is set as.

I actually have a GIF of this somewhere on my Photobucket.

Here We Go

An RPG Maker MMO (as in a game where you actually build the RPG game while playing it) isn't a good idea. Well it's fun to design and think about, but it would take me approximately three and a half years to complete alone, let alone find some servers that would let me run a JAVA program with disk access. It would likely be released as a kit for individual people to set up their own MMO servers.

Not to mention I would actually have to design the thing, as in actually keep an SVN and docs for every little detail. 20XX is something I can just shoot off the hip easily without it being too buggy or messy and really simple. Design alone could take a year and isn't part of the 3.5 years of development time, and these are my first estimates which are shorter times than actual results.
