Help with my sprites?
Okay. I'll be out of town for the next couple of days, but when I get back, I'm going to work on it again. Thanks for the input.
Help with my sprites?
Okay. I finally pulled down your gif and looked at the frames. I like what you're recommending. Your changes are that you've added a point of contact in each frame?
I've edited mine to kind of reflect that. I was also looking at the running animation, and anatomically, it's much longer than the standing sprite.

I'm shortening up the limbs to reflect this, but in doing so, I have to change one of the frames up quite a bit (the crouching frame). Otherwise, it doesn't look right at all. By shortening the arms and legs, though, he doesn't appear to be making big leaps like before. Also, in his "falling" frame, his hands don't make contact with the ground like yours did. Is that problematic?
Once I get the kinks ironed out in the animation, I'll finish the coloring and shading.
Edit: With this side view, given how small the sprite is, is it okay to only show one of the wolf/fox ears? If not, how would you all show two?

I've started work on this boy, and what I have right now is still pretty rough.

I haven't really begun to shade anything, and all the base colors are subject to change. In fact, I don't really care for them at all, and I am open to suggestions as to which colors to use on him. He is based very loosely on Gau from FFVI in that he was raised in the wild by animals/monsters. I'm not sure if he is going to be wearing a fox or a wolf pelt, either.

I welcome any suggestions as to what could improve upon this animation (obviously I will add a shadow beneath him at some point). Would you change his look altogether?
I will edit the original post with this information.

Animations for VX Ace
When you say that, you are saying that you can make it allow for more frames and eight-directional movement with scripts? Please pardon the redundancy; I just want to make sure I'm understanding correctly. Thanks.

Also, are you only able to make characters walk up/down/left/right? Or can you make them walk diagonally, too?
Requesting pointers for pixel work [Updated 13/03]
You may not agree with me, but I think it looks a little better with the outlines pulled more toward violet/magenta, as that is the color you've pulled the darker parts to.
Do you like how it looks if you desaturate it a little? When I did it, it ended up looking a little faded, but it really depends on how everything else in your game is going to look.

Animations for VX Ace
In VX Ace, how many frames are you allowed for animations for characters? For instance, if walking to the right, how many frames can I use? Is it simply "1-2-3-2"? Can you use more than that?
Help with my sprites?

Does this animation look all right? Does anyone have any recommendations to make it look better?

I also have the slime's animation:

Is there something I can do to improve on these, or are they all right?

Thanks. I'll check GIMP out later tonight.
Using this (which has already been posted up above by me) as a base:

Do either of these two look any better?

Are they too similar to the one above to be noteworthy? The changes that have been made were to the shading of the arms, and one of the two has an outline on the arms as well.
How can I cleanly desaturate the ogre? Does it even look like it's necessary to anyone else?
