Child's Light

Wanted to say, I tried this yesterday... I didn't know what to expect, what with the unique art style (Reminds me of Umineko maybe...)

I played, got the best ending, and was quite satisfied! Great work!
Interesting setting, nice music; eye-catching artwork; and that battle was pretty awesome xD

But then... I read about different possible endings, and ended up spending like an extra 4 hours trying to find things that weren't there, were bugged, or requiring very specific choices to get...

For example :

The locked drawer in Stacy's house was impossible to unlock. I guessed RUBY, after seeing STACY wouldn't fit... but it didn't unlock. SO, much later; I opened up the game in VX Ace, and noticed that you have a 5th number requirement! I was able to unlock it however, by inputting 08 into the 5th number in Cynthia's home, and then inputing RUBY in Stacy's house.

Another thing that drove me crazy was after the really interesting/awesome fight with Stacy, that whole letter prank quest, appears to be a complete dead end, after talking to Gerald. I tried sooo many things to figure out how to continue. But, in the end; I peeked in editor, and saw nothing related to the prank....
That was disappointing ;-;

Finally, getting the ending picture where Katherine vows to haunt your family was really a tough one to find (saw it in editor)... Since you had to avoid suspecting the Sister at all... Nice picture though!

Other than that, there were a few minor bugs like, duplicated text in the Good ending where you choose to keep the old traditions.
Also, you can talk to Emily when the screen goes black, after you submit enough evidence to convince her to free Cynthia's parents. That results in a kind of awkward dialogue, could possibly cause a problem maybe if you submitted evidence again...
And the candy was a real tease... I tried to use it to do SOMETHING! But, couldn't find a use...

There might have been a few other things but...

But, in the end... the initial experience was well done. The art drew me in for being so different, but I kept playing for the story. Would enjoy seeing more!

PS : I tried downloading Save your Mother(?), but the link was broken!

Vagabond

I made this video in a hour today to show someone the Gates song from Vagabond...
Thought you would like to see it xD I should have done a better job, but alas!

Vagabond

I finished it!

Oh man, the bad ending xD I thought at first you had to try to defeat your companion when it gives you the chance to attack. I held back when I played... But, it seems it forces you to stop attacking :P

Loaded back to the last sage, and yep! That did the trick D:
My hero is really a busy guy, sorry Izzy, I gotta go home now... Bye...
*tug tug* *weep weep*
Sorry! Bye bye!

... What becomes of the hero is quite unique though. Well played D: Even if you would have given the player a chance to try to escape, if you're lost, it's only a matter of time before the ground crumbles beneath you D:

*ahem* I got the good ending first...
I thought you were going to put me in a hard place for a minute, making me fight my companion... That would have been an interesting final battle, but awful! :P I imagined you'd defeat Izzy and then end up under the curse or under his control...
But, Elnia is amazingly strong.

I could keep rattling on for a while... but let me keep it short and say, the quality of the game was great all the way through. Even the story caught me by surprise...
Oh, Elnia...

I think I would have told her parents though. They probably would have liked to know all about what she did, how she saved all those people that they saw appear; including the hero. Alas!

One last bug report, this time in the dialogue :
In the final lines, "I'll never forgot the time we spent together."
I watched the end again to make sure.... It says, I'll never forgot the time we speant together." Instead of I'll never >forget< the time we spent together.

Oh and there was one other line, could be intended; after defeating the Demon XOKTOR (hopefully I spelled his name right... I always avoid saying names... bad with them...), he says something like "We could have ruled the world together <insertyournamehere>"
There's no period at the end of that line I believe..., I don't recall seeing any other lines that have no punctuation at the end, so just reporting that in case.

And that... is the end of my journey into Vagabond... (for now)
If you ever make another game? I hope to play it too!

PS. I got the Awesome Badge >;D That was a rough battle...

Abused Seduce on the Light Essence, since that magic shield got me killed a couple of times lol Seduce is 100% guaranteed confusion? She really must be something ;D Going around charming snakes, wisps, humans... everyone is so confused...

Vagabond

I'm about to enter the tower! Close to finishing the game...

I've really enjoyed Vagabond, though I wish there was some interaction between your companion and yourself~ I've been thinking that the game reminds me of Final Fantasy Legend's spirit somehow... But, can't quite put it into words...

Anyway! Here are a few strange things I encountered :

When rescuing your companion from the case of the werewolf's curse, when they rejoined my party, it left a duplicate of my companion facing to the right, where I talked to them. It's minor, and it goes away after leaving the room.

After defeating the fiend of that dark werewolf area, there's a cave which leads to the jungle, where you can pick up a bottle for magic water. If you go into the cave after beating the fiend, but leave and go back to the dark field, the music, lighting and cave dripping sounds continue while walking around outside.

On that same note, in the jungle festival bar place, after defeating the fiend; if you enter from the top of the bar, it will be dark and raining inside D:

In the expert Monster Tournament, the Iron Giant, the 11th monster you fight has never hit me even once! I don't know if my monster is just immune to his attack type or what... Made my life easier though :P
At that point my monster Izzy, chose :
I took damage from melee attacks by the Vampire and Angel.

After the flashback cutscene with Eliza the sage in the jungle, your companion is on top of your character D:

Oh, and THIS HAS to be a bug

He should say, "Your monster looks pa..."
*gulp* xD

"Not a critter!"

Oh, wish there was a way to rename my companion later in the game...
Izzy was the name I chose for the Slime... Who knew "she" would end up being a lovely Harpy D: Izzy, doesn't quite cut it later on!
Roleplaying, I thought about calling Izzy, Eliza... And then lo and behold, I run into the last sage, her name Eliza! (Izzy ... Lizzy ... Eliza)
Would be a fitting tribute to the Sages sacrifices if I named her that...

As for my experience so far :

The battle gameplay was really tense and quite fun. It was tough for my party! Especially, since I tried to avoid resting too often...
The toughest battles were :
The marsh fiend, the dark werewolf area fiend, and the shapeshifter of the crystal cave. The fiends killed me at least a few times..., and the shapeshifter was a constant life or death struggle the entire time. Because, my character and companion were both magic users!
Oh! That's right, she ran out of magic. ...... lol That might be a bug...?

The gameplay completely changed after I went to the jungle however... I guess I can only blame myself, but up until that point, the battles were taxing on my party; had to keep focused. But, after spending a hour or two at the monster battles... xD I turned over a new leaf. I ran around one-shotting most of the tree area, and had to hold back during the fiend to give him a chance to fight back xD

My character chose : Male -> Magic -> Family, and became a sorcerer. (Have you played Lunar?? Because I felt like I was playing Ghaleon with the skills I was getting ;D I lovedddd it lol)

I am curious to see if dialogue changes if I start a new game and choose revenge, if my happy-go-lucky attitude becomes something darker...

As for the mapping... Great job!!! It's really very well put together, and a pleasure to run around the world. I'm not sure which area would be my favorite... The Dark Plains were pretty fun... The lake area actually felt like hte smallest of the areas, since there was no extra areas outside the dungeon. The lake was nice though...

Great music. Nice choices. I love listening to the Wall safe area theme. In fact, I'm listening to it while I write this ;D

As for the story : It turned out to be quite interesting, though I still consider it limited... More along the lines with how much story you get out of a game like Zelda : Link to the Past. I'm interested to see how it all ends!

And on that note, time to finish the game and also beat the Expert Monster Tournament (though I worry if I powerup any more, the tower will be far too easy!)

Vagabond

I played Vagabond 1.1 demo earlier today and finished it! I immediately went online to see if a full version was out... and YES!

It sounds like it is safe to copy the old 1.1 demo saves to the new one?
I copied them over, and then went and re-beat the swamp boss (my third fiend), it still gives me the "Technically you've reached the end of the demo" message... A little worried about that! But, it seems like I can proceed into the other areas now~

Anyway, nice work on this... That personalization in the beginning and the not-too-serious dialogue kept me moving right along.
When I reached the first sage though, with their banter I realized the limitations of this game: it wasn't going to end up too large or deep of a story, but on the other hand, it's focused, and it's fun to wander around seeing the world (and look for upgrades for Izzy! ... A sorcerer... and his Dove... D:)
Now, back to the game! :D

I'm Scared of Girls

author=poopoose
A few questions are still in my mind:
1. What is the obsidians for? To me, it seemed to be meaningless.
2. What is the big key? I "fixed it in place" but the door didn't open...
3. And I found the skull shop. Where is that I can find a skull? I found the three skulls somewhere like a stage, but I couldn't take them.

I second these questions...
Also, the soul removal cutscene...? I didn't see any changes after that, unless I wasn't supposed to do it, before using the Big Key... (... unless they were all metaphors of Lamb's experiences ...)

I'll assume that those events weren't expanded further... No alternate endings...

In any case, I loaded up this game earlier tonight thinking I'd play something silly, or fun. Oh. my. This was definitely a bit deeper and darker than I'd expected. Although I had a hard time keeping all the facts organized and making sense of the surrealism, it kept me playing till the end. I probably didn't catch everything, but it was a curiously disturbing and rewarding experience. Well done! It's a nice work.

... Now I'm going to sleep on it. D:

Forever's End

It's been a while since I finished the release a year back or so... I got a new computer and was installing some favorite RPGmaker games, when I ran into Forever's End, (and Love & War - Act I).

When I start up Forever's End, the music is garbled and static ridden to the max. It ALMOST sounds like music, except it's warped horribly.

The same horrible noise happened with Love & War - Act I, but only for the voiced parts! (MAde me jump! Maybe I'll take a youtube...)

I haven't seen this problem in any of the other games I loaded up.

Here's what I've been able to figure out so far, and how I was able to ... work around it for now.

With both LAW and Forever's End (FE), I noticed both use Disharmony to playback odd trick files. (Or at least that's what I thought... for FE, but more on that in a minute)

LAW has the voice files setup like : Ryan's Voice.mp3.wav
It's actually, a mp3, but disguised as a wav. Disharmony is usually able to understand this.
LAW uses RM2K.

(I was able to workaround the issue, by converting all the files to real WAV's.)

With FE, almost all the songs are Track 01.ogg.MP3; I thought they would be OGG disguised as mp3s, but apparently not. They are just mp3s...?
FE uses RM2K3.

(I was able to workaround the issue, by switching out RPG_RT.exe with RPG_RT.exe.bak, which you left in Forever's End_7.rar; and using "RM2kFontChanger.exe" using MS Echoes.fon.)

Now it plays the music back perfectly! Do you remember what was changed between the backup RPG_RT.exe you left in there and the normal RPG_RT.exe that works for most people? (Will using that one break the game at some point?)

I can't figure it out... I don't want to reformat my computer to see if something I installed is causing this >< Took forever to get to this point xD
Tried uninstalling FFDShow, and installing directshow codecs to try to get it working... But, it didn't seem to make a difference.

I did notice FE didn't use the newest version of disharmony, but LAW did; and yet they both had the same problem. I THOUGHT that maybe both games were reading the files incorrectly, passing the mp3 files to some filter that tried to read them as OGG or WAV; but since just switching out the RPG_RT.exe file, I'm kind of stumped D:

Here's what it is doing (WARNING LOUD) :
FE : http://youtu.be/3DcpQ-6hAI0
LAW : http://youtu.be/JpFmOGxA5D0

Love and War: Act I

So, I've finished it...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahh... *sigh*. I thought for sure this time around I'd somehow get Lavie on the boat before we left. PULL HER RYAN!!!! arrrrrrrrrrgh.

Shoot.

-_-

Anyway! Amazing job all around with the revamp.
5 star rating.

Could always use more voice acting, finish replacing the original CGs, and maybe a few more custom portraits...
The maps are pretty much perfect. The dialogue and story is pretty perfect. Quests are good. The dungeons overall are still a little too easy, but then again I am replaying, so my judgement is iffy. The music could use a full blown original soundtrack... (what's with that look!?) But, it's already memorable and nostalgic.
The characters are pretty top notch too. I love games that avoid making empty NPCs, and flesh out a living world... So many fun conversations...

Nice touch with the Programmer's Room... It was short, but it makes the core team that much more memorable. And the clips were priceless lol

Out of curiosity... what took the longest with the voice acting?
Was it getting everyone to record their parts? Or having people re-record parts, since you couldn't do it live, so you'd have comments and direction about certain lines... Or just finding people willing to do it?
Or was it the intricate process of timing it manually?

Doesn't seem like every important part got voiced, but there was a generous amount. :D
Mmmm... I did think some of the voices needed some audio editing, to balance out the volume at times. But the only feature with the voices that was really missing, was being able to skip dialogue. Press a key once to make all the text appear, press it twice and it displays the next line, and cuts off the previous voice.

I'm tempted to donate, but I'm kinda in the red at the moment... by a sizeable amount.... .. . . . . Still tempted though...

Maybe instead I can offer services for Act II... you know how to contact me should the day come... :D

It would be a crying shame to not see Love and War's epic untold. And I realllly hope the main characters can continue to be voiced! (by the same people! ... guh.... Xenosaga....)

...
I was thinking maybe this time I'd be able to get Lavie on the boat thanks to the new choices, like neglecting Marianne... so Lavie wouldn't cry @_@

Love and War: Act I

Admiral: Sometimes the voices or music are softer or louder, putting me in a bind; my solution is to move my headphones around on my head as I play xD

Oh, and please forget my complaints from yesterday; wrote them at 3 AM... Started playing again today and all I have is <3

Love and War: Act I

Hey! Posting here since I can use spoiler tags~ :D
I jotted a bunch of random thoughts after I stopped playing earlier today.
(Stopped at the Inn scene with Lavie)

Please take all my random notes with a grain of salt. Most are just my "feelings" about this or that.
Not sure if they will be useful, annoying, or what... I just figured I would post them to give some kind of feedback/expectations/etc...

...
-First, "The mapping is epic." I haven't compared the previous version yet, but every place looks better than ever before. Don't know if it's just my bad memory or if SGCN has been working overtime :D It's great.

-I recall one weird thing in Davenport, the place Ryan doesn't want to go; the one with the music harp sign above the shop... The door doesn't look like it fits the frame! There's a black space above the door... Is that supposed to be like that?

-I had hoped there would be new matching portraits for all NPCs... I'm good with the current ones, but they are from all sorts of games. The original ones for Ryan, Lavie and friends are still the besttttttttt.

-"Epic Lavie forced her way into the party scene XD" Yes, I wrote that in my notebook

-Jun's voice seems a tad too quiet at times... Probably just how he speaks, but... I noted it D:

-Also I noted I felt there was a lack of ambient lighting effects? Like lights at night... and stuff? I had more to say about this, but I can't remember the specifics... Unimportant, but these were in my notes >< lol

-I'm a huggggge Lavie fan. And I must say her voice actress does an excellent job. Sounds professional <3
I did note however, that I thought she might sound too sweet at times...? Like when Armin and Henrik are fearing for their life and RED EYED Lavie makes her appearence with her cooking in question; I didn't feel the hairs on my neck stand on end :P

-"Wish the campfire scene was voiced..."
Awwww I was hoping that one was voiced... I was looking forward to it... I know it was really too long to do though xD

-The picture of Lavie and the teddy bear, and the picture of Ryan and Marriane was superb. Double take awesome.

-The really important scene where Lavie grabs ahold of you at Blackwater Park...
I had mixed feelings about that picture... I thought the style between her talking portrait below and the full screen CG conflicted unlike the previous CGs... Also, I'm wondering if the colors in that CG set could be limited better? For instance in the part where she blushed, her eyes looked awkward due to the limited colors... My experience with photoshop makes me question if the colors could be limited differently to be more true to the original... (wants to try...)
I like the picture though, loved it when I saw it on the website; just undecided about how it meshes in-game...

-
"Hi. My name is xcalibar and I'm an obsessive compulsive level grinder."
Given the opportunity and the saftey... I end up killing all the spores on the map...
In the situation like when you're chasing after Lucky the dog, I thought it might add a sense of pressure if you added a timer to the first part, till you rescue him. That would have forced me to try to avoid the slimes instead of taking my time, max lvling thieving skill, and all my weapons xD
Oh and the full instant refill save points... I noted it might be better if they were one time use health / ammo restores. That way I don't just "camp" the points...
.... I just can't stop myself!

-I noted there wasn't a huge sense of relief after surviving the Viper Lair... I don't recall Mr. El????? really congratulating me on surviving and exterminating the menace D: I know he was shook up about Lucky, but.... Well I guess I need to play that scene again before I say anything else; maybe my memory is faulty xD

-"The Dogtags..." I can't wait to see the explanation as how or why they are so crazily scattered and that he expects me to find them O_O I thought I was going to find them next to graves or something D:
That aside, I can dig a good treasure hunt!@

-"Some of the music is too loud..." I guess I needed to write specific examples for this to be of any use D:

-"Would be nice to be able to save before the 'meanwhile...' cutscenes"...

Despite these random complaints and whatnot, I want to make sure you know that L&W was one of my top rated rpgmaker games, next to The Way before the revamped version. And replaying it, I'm having just as much fun as I did the first time. That's a huge compliment for me, since, rarely am I able to replay games and enjoy them just as much. :D
Don't worry about trying to respond to this crazy post, I usually give people headaches trying to figure it out >< lol

I hope there will be an act II some day... This story deserves attention.
It deserves nominations... <3
