I'm a 19 year old college student. I plan on going into a military branch in the future, and I'm a wee bit of a gamer, although I'm fading from that scene with having more time taken from me, and less money to spend.

What's the Point?
Lately, I've been wondering, what's the point in mastering a program like RPG Maker 2003, and creating some games with it?
To me, there really doesn't seem to be one. Every time I ask myself what the point is of me pouring hours on end into some specialized software, to make a game, that wouldn't stick out any more than anyone else on this entire site, I keep coming to the conclusion that there isn't a point, and it's a genuine waste of time.
So, why do you guys do it?

Newbie Chipset Confusion
Total newb here. I'm confused on what's going on with this chipset. When you open a new project, notice how with the Lower Layer, the default water on the map is brightly lit? Then when you click on the Upper Layer, you see that the water becomes dark?
For some reason with the chipset I'm using, the Lower Layer is gone when I select the Upper Layer.
Here's what I mean:

So what do I do to fix it?

Modern City or Town 2k3 Chipset
Does anybody know where I can get an RPG Maker 2003 chipset for a modern looking city or town?
Too vague? Well, something that has houses that are stucco, with concrete and maybe asphalt.

Final Fantasy 7 2k3 sheet
I've been working on changing some FF7 2k3 sprites from the sprites that come with 2k3 into some Final Fantasy 7 characters:

I used mainly the Characters 1 sheet for placement, and used one of the green haired character from the Hero 2 sheet.
So, what do you guys think? I'm considering making 2 more. One of Tifa with her cowgirl hat, and another of a cloaked Sephiroth clone, or Genesis.
You guys can use them for a cool cameo or something if you want, but I'd like my name mentioned. :P

Complete Newbie 2K3 Question
Hey, I wanted to ask you guys real quick, how can I make an event that after the hero presses 3 switches, it opens 1 path?

I want to make it so that after activating the three yellow circled switches, it will open a path, upwards to the red X. Also, the order of swtiches shouldn't matter.
