ARIEDONUS'S PROFILE

I have been fiddling with RPG Maker on and off for six or so years, and in becoming so accustomed to it, have been reluctant to learn to hard code anything. Despite that, I plan on going to school for Game Design, because I -love- making games (although I have yet to finish one, haha). I'm also pretty terrible at coming up with an interesting block of text about myself, so I am going to end this here! :D

!School is on it's way!

1. Are you still in school? Yeah.
if so:
2. What grade are you going into? The grade I'm IN is eleventh.
3. When do you go back to school? Started Tuesday.
4. What classes are you taking? Honors LA III, Band, Chemistry, Honors Algebra II, French I, Personal Finance, and Government. D:
5. Where will you be doing "back to school shopping"? I think my mom did it at Wal-Mart.
6. Are you excited? Do you look forward to it? Kind of, but not really. I have to get up early for marching band every morning and that sucks ass.

@Neophyte: For my class and the class above me, +'s and -'s don't matter for us, but for all the classes below us (class of '11, '12, etc into enternity), they actually affect your GPA.

If I had started school a year late I'd have to work harder. Lucky me, haha.

Event Rolling [ System Idea ]

Pantsman: Sure, I guess.

Nick: That's a pretty rad idea, actually. I think that's what I'll do with it, and I'll just make an encounter gauge or something that will warn the player about battles.

LWG: Yeah, that's the main thing I was worried about, but since it looks like I'll be incorporating it into battles instead, things should be fine.

Event Rolling [ System Idea ]

Pantsman: I'm not too sure why the player should be rewarded for avoiding conflicts and whatnot, but you did give me some ideas.

Karsuman: Although it may come off this way, it's not like I was just sitting around desperately trying to think up something "different." The idea just came to me and it happened to be something I don't think I've seen done before. About the engaging bit, I agree to an extent. Right now, it isn't very engaging because it is still in its early development stages and I don't have a lot of ideas for it (as I stated in the first post), but I think it has some potential.

Is it possible?

Event Rolling [ System Idea ]

Every game needs something to make it stick out and well, I honestly didn't really have much for my current game, BUT I think I've come up with something. Although the idea is kind of rough and still in the planning stages or whatever, I figured I would post it here to get some feedback and maybe even some more ideas for it.

So, in my game I'm thinking about implementing a system I've been calling "Event Rolling." Basically, after a given period of time, an "Event" window will pop up on the screen (or something), and the player will have three options: roll, battle, or avoid.

Roll: "Roll" for a chance at finding an item or for some other special event(not sure what) to occur. Battles can result from rolls too.

Battle: Self-explanatory. You enter a fight with a random group of monsters.

Avoid: Avoid an event altogether. This may or may not add some points to a counter or something that will eventually force a battle or some other penalty on the player.

The player will be able to run away from fights if they choose the Battle option, but not if they enter a fight through the Roll option. The rate at which these events will pop up will probably be able to be affected by items or skills.

Anyways, I think that's about it. Comments? Questions?

Is it possible?

Yeah, there's a way.

"Key Patch - by Ineluki (RM 2000, RM 2003 up to version 1.04, Value! version NOT supported)
Allows you to use all keys as well as the mouse in your games. You may also call EXE-Files and play MP3 files. It's the most famous tool I know. But it has a big drawback: RPG Maker 2003 version 1.05 or higher are not supported. But exactly THIS versions have great features like 50 pictures and such stuff." - GW

Need Testers

You have combat screenshots by any chance? I don't think people would want to test/play this for you without shots of what you say the game is primarily driven by.

Looks interesting, though. If you can get some battle screenshots up I'll probably give it a go.

Illusionist, I like the idea you have going there. Though, I'm curious, are the backgrounds supposed to be like an outer wall or just a background?

EDIT:

Haven't posted a screenshot in a while (mainly because I haven't been working on my game much but whatever), so I figured I would post a picture of a new area I've been working on.

@FyreX: I agree with everything people have said so far, except I don't like the battle shot. The charset battlers on that background just clash rather badly and the way the party is lined up in a straight vertical line is kind of boring. Just making that a diagonal line would make it more interesting I think, though since it looks like you'll have a six member party, maybe you could use two diagonal lines of three or some other crazy formation to spice things up. Also, I like the use of the character portrait in the status screen, but why is the character's equipment in the bottom right hand corner, shoved over by a biography and basic information? A character's equipment is pretty important in RPGs, so it'd probably be best to move it closer to the important stat stuff.

@Mog: I didn't notice the roof thing, but I don't think I'm very good at noting those kinds of things anyways. I think everything is looking pretty sweet so far, but is there going to be NPCs and whatnot running around this place? It seems a little empty right now.

@Ody: Honestly, I don't have much to say about your shot, but I'm curious as to if this place has a roof or not, because if it does have a roof, would those wall shadows be possible? I'm not a lighting expert so if I sound like an idiot, I apologize, haha.
