Basic Battle Scripting Questions (2k3)

I am trying to script a boss battle in RPG maker 2k3, and having some trouble.

For instance if I wanted a boss to use a special ability every 5 turns of the fight without falter. How do I set the number of turns on him to do this. Every combination I tried will not get it done. Further explanation of the turn variables would be very helpful also. (ie x + what does y and z represent)

Thanks in advance.

Overworld Mini Map troubles.

Hello everyone,

I am pretty new to the forum but have been lurking for about a month :D

I have been working on a game for about 4 months now in RPG Maker 2k3, and plan to submit it to rmn upon completion. I am having trouble figuring out how to make a decent mini map for my "overworld" or "World Map". At the moment I have a tiny minimap appears whenever the player enters the airship. I think this is nice reward for getting the airship, instead of just increased mobility.

The problem:
I can't seem to make a proper tracking dot/beacon to indicate where the player is on the mini-map in relation to the world. I have messed around for a good 2 hours try to get it to convert right and I am just thinking it is not possible without the use of decimals :(.

My world map is 100x100 units large.
Rpg Maker 2k3's resolution is 320x240.
My mini-map picture is 1/5 the size of the resolution, so it is 64x48.

Anyone have a solution/suggestions?

Hero's Realm 5000

I downloaded Hero's Realm last weekend. I haven't gotten too far yet, but from what I've seen so far its a great game. Lots of collectables, and balanced gameplay. I sort of like how you used the chipsets in their simplest form, it seems more fitting almost. Anyway great stuff!

Fallen Wings

All was fixed after I installed XP.

Fallen Wings

Do I need to have RPG MAKER XP installed to play this, or is it stand a-lone?

I am getting RPGSS102e.dll not found.

Looks good though, can't wait to play it.

Currency? Who needs currency?

It is an Interesting thought, a game with no currency. While a currency system does bring some undesirable side effects as you listed. It does add some depth to the game in the form of decision making. Such as do I want to upgrade a couple pieces of equipment or should I buy that uber spell? This will give the game more replay value potentially, because they can choose to spend their money different equipment, instead of being limited to what they find..

However there is a catch, the game must carefully control the flow of money the player receives. You don't want money just getting thrown at them, so they never have to make a decision with it. And likewise you don't want to make money so scarce that it becomes a grindfest, just to use the inn. Like you said in some games players will have an excess of worthless money at the end. Game creators can add large purchase novelty items to maybe make a reward for massing their coffers.

In the end games can benefit or be hurt by a currency system and its up too the creator to match his game with an appropriate system.
