I'm just some random guy who dabbled around in flash for a few years. Then I found out about RPG Maker, and I've been messing around with it. Hopefully I'll have a game up and running soon.

That's pretty neat. So if your character learns a fire spell, you can use it to melt an ice barrier?
Yeah put it also incorporate just about every other spell you learned :P. The last dungeon was ridiculously hard for me.

I like having difficult puzzles in dungeons; Golden Sun did this really well. If you didn't play the game, what would happen is you would get a new power and you would wind up using it in really creative to solve the puzzles.
Not to mention most of the puzzles were harder than day-old gum.

Mass Effect 2
I just beat Mass Effect 2 about ten minutes ago as a Paragon Sentinel on Normal. I didn't play Mass Effect 1, but I'll be damned if I miss three.
Also, my whole squad survived, no guides, nothing.

Party Size
I like having a large party where I can pick and choose my team, Golden Sun 2 did this really well. You had 8 different characters that were very customizable, so you could make a party anyway you liked.
Would Real Life Music Be Distracting

In all likelyhood you probably don't have the skills yet to choose the correct music for the correct scenes so I would just leave it alone unless you know really know what you're doing.
All right then, maybe for a later game when I'm bit more experienced.
