The Phases of GAM MAK

Yup!! I agree with all of this stuff, especially all the parts about prototyping and brainstorming. I used to always play around with brainstorming and jump right into prototyping / prettying in RM or Unity, without seeing the major flaws smack in the center of my plan. I still do sometimes and it always comes back to bite me...

Every bit of time you spend in the Brainstorming, Framing, and Design phases saves you tons of effort later! I've found that, before touching an engine, paper prototyping is really useful. It's easy to do with turn-based RPGs and if you simulate little battles on paper, you can often spot conflicts in your mechanics, and save yourself a ton of time you would have spent coding first.

RMN MAY 2015 PODCAST

I got a chance to listen! Thanks so much for the tutorial shout-out :D

I like the battle formula topic a lot! I got some good ideas from it. And I totally meant to get in on the writing topic, but I got... distracted... by everything...

this is bound to happen now that we have come full circle. (Maybe NSFW for the perverted mind)

This would be a perfect desktop wallpaper.

RMN MAY 2015 PODCAST

Ah yay, Jo \o/

Ya'll have been grinding these podcasts out really quickly!

Let's Unity!!

author=ricifidi
Nice to see unity tutorials here!. This guide may prove to be useful for total visual studio noobs like me (the interface is huge and even finding font & font color options could prove to be a challenge)

http://twiik.net/articles/how-to-use-visual-studio-with-unity

Ah, fantastic! I'm super glad I switched to Visual Studio. I got by with MonoDevelop fine, but VS has all the really nice code completion and auto-syntax settings, it's great :D

author=unity
Haha, thanks for that! This tutorial looks great, btw :DDDDDD

Thanks ^^

I had so many good ones too!

"Making Games with Unity! (not that unity)"
"We Dream of Unity"
"A First Date with Unity" I think this one was Nessy's

author=CashmereCat
Ohhhhhhhhh yes! Sweet. Bookmarking this for later reading after I finish this assignment due in 12 hours (help).

You got this, dude! /o/

Let's Unity!!

author=kentona
sweet beans! This is the kind of stuff that spoonfeeds me to a point where I actually get into an engine. (I am unmotivated like that)

Yeaaa buddy! I'm glad, that's what I was hoping for. Unity has a lot of great tutorials and resources out there, but trying to figure out where to start can be pretty overwhelming.

Let's Unity!!

I'll keep an eye out for more helpful links and update the Links section when I can!

I went the whole article without making fun of unity, go me :D

RMN APRIL 2015 PODCAST PART 1

The same applies to "shota" as well, right? I think I remember hearing that it's not perceived the same way in the East as it is in the West.

EDIT: This is interesting to read about - my sister recently got into lolita fashion, so I've been hearing a lot about it.

RMN Snews - Issue #23

Ahh, kentona, this is cool! I know you've been busy as hell and it's hard to not just get overwhelmed with stress and real life stuff and that sort of thing will totally destroy your desire to make games. And you're trying to run a website on top of that, y'know? It's crazy and super impressive that you've done what you have. I can't speak for anyone else but I appreciate you doing what you do - and all the fantastic staff, as well :D

As far as the store goes, I guess I'm not too surprised at the result. Steam has very much opened its doors recently, and it's hard to compete with them. I think it's okay, I like RMN's status as a place to get started and work through prototypes or small games or just hobby stuff. There's plenty of places out there already where people can vie for cash, but there's not too many game dev communities with people I actually wanna talk to!

I answered the questions!

1. What is your personal TODO list?

Too many things, but "finish a game again" is up there. My last one was for the IGMC! Too long ago! As far as personal life goes, I'd like to find more time to exercise and maybe even go on some dates XD

2. How many other RM or dev communities are you active in?

None, really. I come here to shoot the breeze with devs here because ya'll are a very friendly crowd! I probably will join some other sites to submit games in the future, but I don't know if I'll branch out socially.

3. What is your current role at RMN?

Game maker, poster of goofy things. Occasionally I'll do something helpful by providing criticism or posting an article or review.

4. Are you satisfied with your current participation on RMN?

Nah, I'd like to help more if I can. Either posting some tutorials, reviews, or just being more active about posting helpful stuff.

5. Do you feel you are empowered to accomplish what you want to accomplish?

As far as RMN goes, yea! I just wish I had more free time, but don't we all?

6. What are you expecting from me?

Crisis management and dry wit. I think you're doing a pretty good job :D If anything, I'm sure it'd be nice to have more staff to run events and things like that. The fact that you and Liberty (and everyone else who helps) run as many as you do is really impressive.

7. What aspects of RMN are you disatisfied with or concerned about? (functionality, trends, certain members, leadership, etc...)

Hmm... I don't know! Well, I don't wanna see you or Liberty burn out, but I know that sometimes interests just fade, and guilting you into it when you're truly uninterested won't end well, either. Maybe you could spread the workload a bit? I don't know though, maybe adding more staff would lead to a need for more management work, though.

8. If you were running RMN, what would you do? Who would you recruit to help you?

Oh god. Uh, as many people as I could who are actually interested? Liberty and ankylo seem to do great! I can think of some names of people who have the right attitude to help, but they're busy with their own thing and who knows if they'd want to. Like I said, guilting people who aren't motivated doesn't usually end well XD

9. How long do you think you will be with RMN (in any capacity)?

As long as there's kind and fun people here to talk to about making games (or just life!), I'll be here. Unless I get jaded and quit making games altogether. Hell, I've never even made an RM game and I post here every day :P

10. Is there anything you wish to say?

Keep on keepin' on :D And lemme know if you need help with stuff and I'll do what I can! That goes for everyone else, too. I like this place.

Oh god, I typed a lot ;-_-

RMN APRIL 2015 PODCAST PART 1

It would be cool to have our own cute little mascot, but I cracked up at

we could have a shota

RMN Gets Pom Gets Wi-Fi

Hahaha, this is pretty neat, and well-written. The idea of the RMN community being both creator and consumer has always been a weird and interesting quirk of this place, and I can see why Pom Gets Wi-Fi's popularity might be a scary thing to people, if it brought a lot of change or became a spokesgame for RM (whether it was true or not).

Anyway, cool essay!
