Sooz shared a Let's Play of about half an hour, and... Love or hate the Five Nights at Freddy's series, you gotta admit that this just looks terrible for an RPG.
There's no explanation of what anything does. Status effects, moves, specials... it looks very much like you just guess at moves and keep clicking them until whatever dies. It's honestly a little painful to watch because it seems so haphazardly made XD

Yeah, good point XD I guess I just want to say "if you're going to make an RPG, but all you've got experience with is horror games, maybe get with someone who knows something about making an RPG or at least consult them"
nobody knows how to make an rpg. i'm pretty sure even experienced devs just kinda throw shit at the wall and hope that it will not suck enough to feed them
i don't think i've seen a genre that's so at odds with itself in both the indie and aaa spheres.

That's very true. There are so many ways to do it. Still, doesn't make this game any less annoying to watch as it flails about ^^;;

Sir Redd of Novus: He who made Prayer of the Faithless that one time, and that was pretty dang rad! :D

There's a Five Nights are Freddy's RPG?

It was a surprising move. He could have gone for a cool Mario RPG feel to it or something. As it is, it feels pretty hollow.
I just watched the Jim Sterling video and... not even exaggerating, this looks something from Newgrounds in 2005, not a commercially-released RPG.

That was the same video that Sooz sent me XD! I'm sure some people will have fun with it, but it definitely looks disappointing to me. I guess the core audience just wants to play around with the characters? Still, I say if you're going to do an RPG, then DO IT WELL!
I probably came off as a bit harsher than I had intended. :x
It's also worth noting the creator has issued an apology for releasing the game in its current state. I really do hope he goes back and fixes it up. Because based on what I saw, it needs a -lot- of work.

what a surprise
Honestly he was better off with that one game.
EDIT:
author=CrazeI think it has a lot to do with how divided gamers are in terms of the genre. There is a sector that doesn't want to play any actual "game" and just experience a story with a combat system they won't care about, and there are the opposite who want that internal complexity... And those that want both.

That, and it seems games that focus on complex strategic thinking are at a decline.

Wow, that's interesting.

There are a lot of features that this game should have had before release, features that I was told about, but ignored and didn’t implement. Features such as being able to see what abilities do during battle, or being able to see a stats page for your characters. These are features that any good RPG would have.
YES. YES. THIS.
I'm happy that he's at least listening and willing to work on it.

At least he's listening. I just saw the LP in question... I'm not sure whether he was trying to make a parody of the genre or what, but regardless this looks abysmal.
parodies have to be well-executed to have any artistic or intellectual merit. being shitty is not a parody
