Your art is really improving. Specially comparing to the first designs you made for Soul Sunder.

I like it.

The Rose Mansion

**PLEASE NOTE SENSITIVE MATERIAL INCLUDES: suicide, implied rape, implied homosexuality, and cannibalism

I see, a game that isn't afraid to cause controversy. I'm interested. And the art is cool too.

Well, I ended up reading the whole article. It's pretty interesting actually. And the part about how society doesn't accept rape in videogames because "The representation of "bad things" in fiction matches up pretty well to the justification of those "bad things" in real life. " kinda makes sense and never thought about it that way to be honest.

But eitherway, what I think is not really related to that. I think that I don't see the problem of including rape in videogames because murder is included and completely natural so "rape is worse than murder" is not something that should be said, even in fiction. Again, I understand why most people and society in general think that way, I just don't agree with that.

Sometimes, there's nothing wrong with including rape in videogames if you are willing to accept other "wrong" themes. For example, games like Silent Hill 2 uses rape as a plot device because if you want to make a game(or a movie, or a novel or anything) with a deep psycological narrative, sex is most likely going to be a key element of the story(regardless it's explicit or just hinted like in SH2).

I think you agree with me(judging by the article) that murder, torture and rape are equally bad in fiction(in the sense that we sholdn't find horrific rape but murder okay). Where I guess we disagree is in the part that they shouldn't be included. I think I'm more into the "if it's fiction it doesn't matter" troop because if you want to write a story about humans and the psicological effect they go trough in fiction, sex should not be omitted(or murder, or torture). I'm not saying it's necessary to include them. I'm saying including them shouldn't be seen as "wrong". If the game portrayed it poorly that's an entirely different thing, because a bad storyteller will write poorly regardless he/she is writing about rape or fieldtrips.

I really don't see the big deal of portraying rape in a videogame considering murder, suicide and other dark themes are way more common and taken way less seriously.
I agree that most of the time it's handled poorly, but that's another thing. Murder is very rarely taken seriously in gaming. Although, you could argue that a victim from rape could play a game like this and feel offended by something like this but to be honest, someone who went trough a traumatic experience like that shouldn't play a game like this.

Let's be real here, it's just that it's a western thing as if sex didn't exist and when something in media is about rape or whatever, it's instantly polemic. Hell, this review is proof to that(look at the amount of responses in this review for a game with less than 30 downloads).

What I mean is that when something like rape is used for narrative purposes it's usually seen as something horrible and that the developers should be ashamed of. Or at the very least it's polemic. Regardless it's handled perfectly or not.
And by the way, I'm someone who has seen victims of rape more than once.

What's with that error to load area data? I thought that could only happen if the PC shuts down instantly while the editor is open. Eitherway, I always recommend to have several back ups of every mayor project you work with. One inside the computer(in case something like what I just said happens) and another one in an external Drive, in case something happens to your computer itself.
You would probably get really upset if you lost your entire game.

By the way, that Tristian portrait for the menu looks amazing *-*.

The portrait looks great but it seems pretty big. There's barely any space for actual text.
I know it hurts to cut off part of the drawing but it should be less wide in my opinion.

It's over 9000!

I think you should redraw the chest sprites too. They look kinda out of place since their color palette doesn't fit well with the background.
Although redrawing all the event sprites is gonna be too much I think.

Release Something...

Don't forget to add the sarcasm face at the end. Or where you serious? Damn you Unity!
