Dealing with NPC crowds

I agree with Mr_H.

I liked the way Earthbound handled this, the Happy Happy Village Headquarters comes to mind. There's a huge crowd of cult members in a giant building, but only very few you can actually talk to. You can tell which ones you can talk to just because their sprite walks sliightly differently than the others.

You could also make an icon float above an important character to show that they're important, depending on how obvious you want to be about it.

I'm taking a small break from libgdx to checkout Scage.

Also, spriting is really, really difficult. My graphics are going to be really awful, I should just try handdrawing everything because I think I can draw better than I can sprite.

I'm learning how to improve my pixel art. This is going to take a while.

I've also started working with libgdx. It's unfortunate, but it seems like I'll have to write my Scala code to look like Java code, at least for the main game loop. Functional programming (based on immutability) and game states (based on mutability) are not a good match. Still, it's such a nice language to work with that I don't mind if parts of my game use un-idiomatic Scala.

I'm not very good at animation, but I'm making a concerted effort to animate more characters and set-pieces in my current game to make it feel more engaging and "alive". I've been grappling with this rowboat animation for a few hours and it's not quite there but it seems to be getting closer.

Bonus: Scheming Flea-man.

I really like your art style. What's your program of choice for spriting?

[Poll] What RM engine are you currently using for your game?

libgdx, it's a framework.

What are you thinking about right now?

I hate having those days where you feel like a huge jerk :(

its pretty hard naming characters and locations lol

This is brilliant.

I participated.

What's the timeline on this capstone project?

Playing around with node.js and canvas http://tyr-net.net/drawwall/ - next step, a penis detection and removal algorithm

Are you going to use an Artificial Neural Network for detection? It sounds like it'd probably be the most straightforward way.

Slowly attempting to learn how RPGmaker VX Ace Lite works... although, I'm a complete moron; so this may take some time.

Keep working at it, you'll be fine.
