The main reason I get out of bed in the morning is coffee. The main reason I stay out of bed is the possibility of more coffee.

So I've Been Getting Into Music...
What are you thinking about? (game development edition)
Since I'm probably going to do the whole non-RM indiegame thing, I'm going to have to learn how to sprite (from scratch with subpar art skills).
I'm really going to miss being able to use all the RMXP resources. A lot of what I've found has a license that specifies it can only be used in RPGMaker games. Or it's ripped. I can't imagine my own art looking all that great, so I'm kinda bummed out about it. Especially seeing screenshots of all these other indiegames with flashier graphics than I could ever make.
But there's no other option, so I guess this will be the start of my own little pixelart adventure.

[Poll] How Much “Planning” Or “Prepping” Do You Do Before Starting Your Game(s)?
author=0range00
Back then, when I was still making stuff, I never planned much. I just kinda went with the flow and wanted to get something I could lay my eyes on.
These day, when I'm not making anything really, all I do is plan.
*shucks* ... neither of these really get the results I'd want :/
anyways, as far as RPGs go, I think everyone should at least plan some kind of skeleton for the story. At the very least where you want the story to go.
This is pretty much how I feel. I used to write as I developed back in the day, and now I'm very meticulous about the whole idea. I have several different design documents and I'm working on everything in isolation: piecing together a tech demo, working on a script on the side, and eventually spriting things. It'll seem a lot like I'm still planning/prepping until I start putting things together.
I guess now I'm erring more on the side of overkill and leaving no room for spontaneity, it's hard to strike a balance though.
Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!
I'm in the planning stage for my game.
I've finally decided on a battle system and a skill-system, and now I'm focusing on fleshing out some of the scenes in my story skeleton. Hopefully in another couple weeks, I can come to a decision about the art style (Mother3-style or 8-Bit or repurposing preexisting royalty-free/copyright free RMXP stuff) and eventually try my hand at spriting.
I'll probably have to outsource the music and buy royalty free music to save myself on time (and maybe commission people for the really important pieces).
And since I do have a battle system in mind, I think it'll be better to roll out my own engine that way I can target all the platforms.

What is better? No reaction from the audience or them laughing at yout performance??
I'd take apathy over humiliation any day. The latter is traumatic, at least with the first you're closer to your goal (middle of the spectrum, one might say). I would rather be forgotten than to be remembered for something awful.
It's been a while, RPGMaker.

Welcome new person. You seem like you know your stuff (especially when it comes to RPG Making lore)! I think you'll fit in JUUUUUSSSSTTTT fine.
They were lost in the great "Chapset War on Radluck Field." The casualties were many --- and Kentona almost died...twice...on the same day -- but we managed to stick together through all the slow-winded ATB battles and pull through! I even got to "heal" somebody! ^^
Hahah, thanks for the welcome, you seem fun. I'll be sure to bring my mage staff in the event of another war.
author=kentonaI can see that happening with myself too. I think it's mostly a matter of not becoming dependent on solely RMN for entertainment.
Hanging around RMN inspires me to slack off. Welcome!
author=SolarluneThank you!
Bad kentona. Baaaad kentona.
Anyway, enjoy your stay here! It's always nice to see new talent. ^_^
author=0range00Hiya. Well, waay back in the day I used to visit all of them, really. GamingW, KR, OGS, Skytower, WotM, Lunatic Gaming, etc.. (notice my account here says I joined in '07) Aside from MonkeyPro, I never really stuck around for most of them - or I guess they died, too. What about you?
hello, i'm rather new member here as well. Trying to get back to RPG making habits too. What boards did you visit "back then"?
The Screenshot Topic Returns
The overall design looks good, I also really like the walltile color. That being said, are the beds supposed to be like sleeping bags? Or like actual beds with frames? If it's the latter, then you might need to tweak the bed graphic a bit.
It's been a while, RPGMaker.
Since I've decided to start working on an RPG again, I figured I'd hang around here. I feel like just being around RMN inspires me to work harder.
I'm in the planning stages for an RPG, though I haven't exactly settled on a language or a platform yet. I'm currently evaluating LWJGL + Scala (since I use Scala at my job), Pygame, Game Maker, and RMXP.
Anyway, it's nice to be back in the community again.
(what happened to all the other forums? War of the Magi, Sky Tower games, Omengate Sanctum, etc.. they're all gone, I guess?)

RPGS... you've beaten
And you are...? (THE INTRODUCTION THREAD)
Hi everyone, I'm rekaru. I somehow stumbled upon this site, and the members all look respectable from what I've seen, so I'd thought I'd make an account here to get feedback on my game and to give feedback on others. I've been rpgmaking for about four years now, yet I haven't produced anything even worthy of a demo. I make games for a hobby, not to show off. That being said, I'll tell you a little about myself. I live in southern california, I'm a 16 year old highschool student, and I'm aspiring to become a psychiatrist. Hobbies of mine besides rpgmaking include reading, writing, anime, manga, games, and listening to music. My favorite bands are Breaking Benjamin, Copeland, and Acceptance. My favorite animes are Neon Genesis Evangelion, Inuyasha, and R.O.D the TV. Finally, my favorite game is Earthbound. Okay, well if you have any further questions, feel free to ask me sometime.
