Description

RPG Maker MV is the latest release in the RPG Maker series. Like its predecessors, the engine is a tile-based point and click engine tailored towards creating traditional RPGs, though this time it allows for multi-platform distribution and uses javascript plugins instead of Ruby scripting.

RPG Maker MV runs in its own 816x642 resolution, however screens can be resized through dragging corners and there are plugin options that allow quick and easy changes to resolution.

RPG Maker MV has a similar interface to RPG Maker VX Ace with a few more built-in features. You may now choose either a front-view or side-view battle system, allowing for either a system with static front-facing monsters and invisible player characters or animated side-view characters and enemies.

With javascript plugins and no hidden cases, there is a lot of customisation in all areas of the engine allowed, including - but not limited to - battle systems, menu systems, resolution changes, grid sizes, tile sizes, and other visual and system examples. It is also quite a bit faster and less laggy than the previous engines.

Having javascript at the core also means that your games can be shared on more platforms. The engine comes with an inbuilt deployment system for Android/IOS, Mac OS X and Windows, but also allows for HTML5 browser use.

RPG Maker MV supports graphical assets in PNG form with alpha channel support, audio files in OGG, MP3, ACC and MIDI format with the capability of setting loop start points for OGGs, and playback of videos in OG, MP4 and WebM formats.

RPG Maker MV has departed from the series staple of having an RTP, instead including the default resources in the new project when created. This allows for ease of sharing projects without the worry of file dependency errors. As such, the EULA has changed in regards to resources, no longer allowing them to be downloaded for the sake of playing games made with them.

The program's EULA allows games to be sold commercially.

RPG Maker MV has a combined Japanese and English release date of the 23rd of October, 2015.
It will cost $80 USD.

I just want to say the following:

I have windows 7 64-bit.

I downloaded the demo product to check out some of the new features for myself, the install went fine, even though it takes up almost 1GB of data (700+ MB), and I opened it and hit continue to start the demo product because I do not have a key (obviously, if I'm looking at a demo). I was greeted with a standard splash screen, similar to RMVX ACE, and the program opened, just like previous RM's.

Unfortunately, instead of seeing a GUI, I got a blank, white window, with no GUI. I gave it a minute because I thought that it just might take a few minutes to load the GUI, but that did nothing.

I have to say, I am sorely disappointed by this, and I urge great caution when looking into this product.
Having been a user of Enterbrain's products for around 10 years or more, I am astounded that the newest demo turned out to be a blank screen on my system.
I do not claim to know what happened, all I can do is tell you to check the product demo before you buy it.

That could be due to a graphics driver issue with your computer. If your computer has issues with OpenGL rendering, then odds are MV won't launch on your machine.

My advice = use RPG Maker VX Ace if you don't care about the exporting options in this.
MV is nice for traditional RPGs, but there's a few things I don't like.
It has audio issues, hopefully was fixed in 1.5.1 but not sure as MV isn't my main development tool.
It had optimization issues at first but that was taken care of in recent releases.
javascript, honestly bad decision and the exports all seem half assed, mobile is a joke, desktop got worse compatibility than Ace "because ace was designed for the desktop" in terms of audio compatibility.

Also, not the best tool for Zelda type games "unless you want to re-write the majority of the rpg core script be my guess" but the map editor is also a problem for those types of games as well...

But MVs official forums to have editor suggestions and I did suggest editor plugins, which work similarly to Unity where custom tools could be made so hopefully we would see something like this either in MV PRO/Ace or update in MV but that type of request might end up in the next RPG Maker release.

For traditional RPGs, MVs great, but not the greatest when you have real-time map based battle systems, also wish RM had polygon colliders "I was spoiled in Unity"
Has the Switch/PS4/XB1 porting of this been mentioned at all around here?

I didn't see it in a quick glance through RMN Twitter or searching this site.
