Description

RPG Maker 2003 is a tile-based point and click engine tailored towards creating SNES-era-like RPGs. The biggest changes in RM2k3 include a new sideview default battle system (replacing the frontview battle system of RM2k), a class system and native support of MP3 playback. RPG Maker 2003 has many similarities to its predecessor RPG Maker 2000.

Its interface includes all of the standard fare of RM2k (heroes, equipment, spells, monsters, battles, etc...) plus tabs dedicated for managing the sideview battle system and the new class system. RM2k3 also has the same limited scripting system as RM2k.

RPG Maker 2003 runs in 320x240 resolution with 16x16 pixel tiles and 24x32 sprites using the .PNG image file format limited to a 256 color palette. The default battle system is a sideview system reminiscent of SNES Final Fantasy games, with player characters sprites on the right facing off against monster sprites on the left, with limited animation for player characters. Battle order is determined by a new active-time bar (ATB) system. The engine supports both the MIDI file format and MP3 file format for music and WAV format for sound effects.

RPG Maker 2003 games typically require the accompanying RM2k3 Run-Time Package (RTP) to be installed on the player's machine. This is a different RTP than the RM2k RTP.

I dis agree with what you said, RM2K3 is alot more then a MINOR update of RM2K. You left out a nice handful of things that was changed from RM2K to RM2K3.
how can i get this runtime to play the game i download?
All run time packages and programs are availed for free download on crankeye.com under the download section.
How do you download it? I looked at the download thing, and it said N/A.

have you heard of google? it's new

nice joke
Where can i download the runtime package for RM2K3????

I found a site but it was in japanese?!
Is there an english version of the rtp if so where can i download it?
RM2K3 Single Installer! Coming to a store near you!

(Sorry, illegal. We don't allow links on-site of the actual program itself because of the legal issues. Besides, Google is made for searching. Use it.)

One installer includes the basic Run Time Pack(img/sound files etc).
You may need to use a compatability with windows xp. if it doesnt correctly install
try that but it should be mostly fine.

I also have made (or edited custom RTP pics i dled) a Giant archive of custom and ripped RTP files from Backgrounds - Battle Animations - Chars+Battle Chars - Chipsets and Monsters. Also I have drastically edited and re-edited the
system (the msg windows and selection bars etc) and system2 (the battle specific windows/time bars/hp-mp bars etc) to the point that there is a style and varied color of Each style to pick a completely unique game layout just to your taste!

(Most of these things are illegal to do to the program due to EULA. Keep in mind that trying to distribute cracked software is illegal, especially when it's also messing with the code itself.)
I have a couple of questions on this.
1. What exactly does the license entail? Actually, which license does this use? All it says is 'commercial' but since the program's free, I'm not certain what that means.
2. Is it possible to not need the RTP when distributing the game?

Thanks in advance.

You cannot sell any game made in this maker as it is not a legal version of it (if it's in English). It has never been released in English.
If you actually purchase the program from Japan, then you may legally use the maker to both make and sell games. This includes the RTP files.
You may not use the RTP files to make games with if you didn't buy the engine - the cost of the engine covers the license cost of the RTP files that are included.

It is possible to not require the RTP files - just be sure you change every file in the game that uses RTP to something else. This includes sound effects in the Database areas, music and graphical components.
Should be updated to 1.12 now.

RM2k3 was my life back in the day, basically lived in the program or idraw... even though I had photoshop I still liked that editor for some dub reason I can't remember.

One of the things that a lot of people wished for was a fully fledged scripting system, one was created unofficially and no I'm not speaking of DynRPG the language was similar to basic and was capable of some cool things however it was only in german and was only given to a few people. It did not alleviate any of RM2k/3s limitations however, you could do mode7 or even a proper abs "somethings that still strikes fear into many programmers with later releases as it's not an easy battle system to get working properly in RPG Maker XP, Ace, or even MV" Xas or Bliz ABS were a nice attempt.

I have fond memories of RM2k3, life was simple, no bills, who has a time machine? Granted I'd go back and learn Unity much sooner than I did "and still am"
hello im having trouble with the software, i was working on a project today and the music files dont work, when it opens it just crashes the software
