Description

This year marked the 50th year of the first Pride marches to take place. With so much that has been going on in the world - so much discrimination, hate and ignorance - it's time we step up and shout proudly about who and what we are!

Often various groups are under-appreciated and under-represented.

Our identity is important, and thus, this event to create games with more representation of those who get a bum deal when it comes to this shit. Our culture, our race, our sexuality, our gender. Who we are matters and we deserve to be represented in ways that we can appreciate and share with others.

And thus begins a day for each year taken to throw open the doors of ignorance and expose the world to our flaming amazingness. Or something. Let's gammak!

Rules
- You have 50 days to make your game.
- Any resources allowed but be mindful of Let's Players and streamers when it comes to copyrighted content.
- Any engine.
- Game must be more than 20 minutes long. Longer time, longer game requirement.
- Event runs from Saturday the 11th July until Monday the 18th August
- Game must be created during that time.
- Must have an accepted game page so that you may submit.


SUBMIT ENTRIES BY MAKING A GAME PAGE, ADDING THE DOWNLOAD THERE THEN SUBMITTING IT HERE.





I don't think it needs to be said, but I'm going to say it now so no-one can say I didn't say it earlier - this event is not about representing hate groups nor racial groups that are already over-represented. It's to draw attention to those groups that are under-represented in media. So if I find a game about Brittany the straightest, whitest Cali teen who ever Cali'd and how she is falling in love with Stevie McWhiteboy, the straightest and whitest Cali boi who ever Cali'd, or a game about being a cop who gets to beat down black folk, I will revoke your ability to gammak. Somehow. I'll find a way. So help me Lord Aremen, I will.

I hear you on that. Most of my work is either just dialogue, or systems work to get the combat system ready for content.

I have nothing pretty or visual to show. Just like 3 maps so barebones there's no proper "walls", and a handful of combat encounters that don't have the right sprites yet. XD I have nothing even remotely screenshot-worthy

On the plus side, major climactic scenes have dialogue done, and I've got most of the encounters for the first dungeon semi-ready for testing. That tutorial boss took waaaay longer than I thought it would to balance properly today.

@karins Thanks!! Yeah, I probably will add an outline. I didn't realize until I posted it how much the light background messed with the bust. The tiles are placeholders at the moment but I still plan on using kinda light colors for the areas.

How is your game going? It sounded really cute!

Mm a nice, bold-ish outline would make these portraits pop, I think.

I have the core gameplay loop down, for the most part but I'm not sure if the game would be fun enough (since it's essentially a walking simulator that makes you do math), so I'm working on that for now. Haven't actually done any actual game making though; mostly just testing concepts and stuff...

In all fairness Karin, my own game isn't far off. It's mostly a walky visual novel with some story-driven battles. The five fights in the game, with any hope, will still feel like true JRPG combat. If it's any reassurance, we still have a month left to do stuff.

To butcher a vital quote for writing though: "a game developer is someone for whom gammak is more difficult than it is for others". If you're deadset on your concept, it's likely because it matters to you, and you're worried it's not going to be a good representation of what you want.

I say this from experience, as I'm also having similar troubles. And I extend this to everyone else too -- don't stress, but don't give up. It's never fun to see someone drop out of events, even though the reasons are often unfortunately valid.

Yeah, that sounds nice to me tbh! As long as it's not like advanced trigonometry. If it's integrals just make it really really easy so I can feel smart!
It was supposed to be mostly arithmetic buuuut I could always add in a little "basic calculs" :3

News of the week:
Not so much progress actually. I've just improved the intro map (my home), added a few dialogues and did a sort of tent in parallax mapping!

And a funny monologue at the intro ; where I think on what to take before I leave:
- The last book of Harry Potter? I'm not sure the spells inside will work in real life. If I say "Avada Kedavra" to Sandra: either she'll consider me crazy, either I'll kill her in an awful way.

I feel you. You know what's been ticking me off? Having to map. I don't want my maps to look too ugly, but at the same time I hate the amount of work I have to put into them to leave them half-decent. I guess I just don't understand how physical space works or something.

That is an ENTIRE mood and a half.

I HATE mapping. Creating a space for the player to traverse that is both entertaining and also looks good is seriously a pain. :(

It's why I'm such a fan of the 3D plugin (which I'm NOT using for this project). The 3D plugin simplifies the mapping process so much, by trimming out most of the decorating process, and keeps most rooms/corridors small.

News of the week:
Written a lot of dialogues! Tested and improved the first half. The game's currently 14 minutes long.
And I've posted my gamepage too: Florian's Eyes, but I'll be adding English screenshots when the French version will be finished.

And finally:
I'd like to turn Florian's Eyes into an episodic game ; only if the Wiccans episode gets a fine review.
(I guess the score will be around 2.5-3.5 stars.)

Alright, I'm gonna have to throw the towel. Starting today, I'll be spending an entire week focused on moving to my new place, and after that, my advisor will probably want me to pick up slack on the thesis, so I won't be able to deliver my project in time :(

I will, however, eventually finish it, but it will have to be outside the jam. I bit more than I could chew with this one, and I only have myself to blame.

A project page should be up before the jam is over, but probably no playable demo. Not because I don't have a lot of the gameplay implemented, but because I'm doing it in a "non-linear" fashion, meaning I don't have the fundamental introductory parts done yet.
I've mostly been updating via the RMN discord, soo...

All dungeons, carved (just patrol routes left to do)
All enemies made (Stat balance required)
Final boss completed (And MAN do I love it)

Welp, time to turn all that loose dialogue I've been writing into proper story cutscene and "campsites", then do a balance run or two, and I'm done.

...And given that I'm on vacation this week...Yup, looks like I'll finish in time. :D
