Description

The last few years have been rough, especially for those who are part of the LGBT+ community. This month is Pride month, where we come together to celebrate finally being able to come out legally in society and be treated as equals by law.

Of course, with every step forward there are people against. Many people have stories of disregard, disrespect, hate and other negative interactions aimed at them, even over the course of this year. We could get down about the horrible things that might happen in the future, that have happened in the past...

OR

...we could celebrate the good things that have come from the fight for our rights to be who we are and love who we do!

And what better way to celebrate than to

So, your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to make a game that is positive in nature and focuses on either a main character who is LGBT+ or LGBT+ as a theme.

- Start making on the 22nd of June. Finish by midnight of July 14th.
- Games must be at least 10 minutes long.
- You may GATHER resources before that date and make notes about the game, but don't actually start creating (resources or in-engine content) before the official start.
- Games must be positive in nature, especially in regards to LGBT+ themes, and should handle with care the topics you choose to represent. Hate speech is explicitly not allowed and this includes things like killing or flinging insulting remarks towards other groups. People are people, even if they're assholes. Keep it happy, folks! No dark depressive themes here! We're celebrating after all!
- Games must have either a main character who is LGBT+ and focus on them, or the theme based on LGBT+.
- Games must have an approved game page. Get that done and in early!
- Any engine, any resources.
- Please keep in mind that there will likely be a stream for the games, and that youtube is ornery about musical and video use in games. Let's NOT get people's accounts content struck by using stuff like, say, The Emporer's Theme from Star Wars or Warner Bros clips in our games.

- Everyone who takes part will gain a participation badge, worth 20 MS
- Full games will receive another badge on top of that, worth 50 MS
- Every game added will go into the draw for a free game.

Legality is not the only metric you can use to measure inequality.
Where is wealth concentrated in a society? How much of a community is homeless, food insecure, impoverished, etc? Who is in control of the government/has power in a society? How is the mental/physical health of a community? What are the rates of violence against a community in relation to other communities? Death rates? What is the social status of the members of this group?

I'm here to tell you that, while I'm happy for you, your personal anecdote is not the reality for many lgbtq+ people. Especially poor and/or black trans women who still are hurt by the gay/trans panic defense you cited.

Please do more research: this is important. <3

did you not get the good vibes only memo
because good vibes only
I'm a neutral vibes kinda person. I'm confident about my own identity though, and I've never been discriminated against. There's good and bad things happening at any times, but having talked to older transwomen, I feel like my lot is definitely easier.

I have no use for crap about how terrible things are, cuz they've never been that bad from my perspective. I also don't see why I have to accept someone's notion that across the board things are terrible for LGBT people in order to make a Rainbow of Positivity thing (doesn't sound very positive to start with the assumption that things are universally bad for a group of people).

I'm okay with making a light and fluffy LGBT romance game. But I still haven't decided whether or not to participate.
I mean, I hope we can go further, but it's positively amazing how far things have come for so many people : D
I can talk about gender and sexuality with my mom and friends without needing to fear much (other than peeps being iffy, which they can be in regards to anything you tell them about yourself, and usually ends up being proven wrong too).

Let's have fun with this either way.
Bulma, could you kindly... bow out? You're harshing everyone's vibes in a major way. There are still people who are terrified to come out as x or y, because people are judgmental fuckheads who hate all things not-them.

Like, seriously, just because laws have finally been instated (that should have been a non-problem to instate a long, long time ago) doesn't mean that everything is suddenly better. It doesn't work like that and you acting like people don't have a reason to fear is beyond pathetic.

Dropping out of this discussion and shutting your face about something of which you know nothing because you, yourself, haven't seen, is the best thing you could possibly do.

No. seriously. This is me telling you to shut up and move on when it comes to this subject. Your opinion is not wanted.

There are so many things I could say in response to Bulma's post but I'm just gonna.. not even gonna really bother getting fully into it.

I will just say that if you wanna argue about gender/sexuality inequalities based purely on your own experiences and anecdotal evidence, you really don't have much of a leg to stand on and it's pointless even discussing it. You're asking people (okay, you're basically asking the person responsible for the event/that quote about how rough things have been, aka Libby) to do "research" on how bad things are, when she herself identifies as LGBT and I'm sure she has many personal experiences with the subject? If you really wanna argue against the idea of having some kind of Pride-specific event, then just pipe down and don't even participate if you don't like it..

This also isn't just about genderfluid people. This is a celebration of the whole LGBTQ+ spectrum, and it's also a chance for people to branch out and try new ideas. It's also a great way to show people who don't know a lot about the spectrum new things they might not have known, and to give developers a bigger platform to showcase LGBT ideas and experiences.

Anyway thanks for making my gay ass real mad.

"The last few years have been rough, especially for those who are part of the LGBT+ community."

You guys should actually do some research, instead of being blandly sympathetic. I don't like generic sympathy, as I've mentioned before. I like people actually knowing what a situation is like.

Not as firm on the rules here as I am on some other sites I frequent, but where I hang this is an A+ case of concern trolling.
Guys we should just block bulma and move on. This is a positive place and bulma wanted to piss everyone off. Best way to defeat bulma is to not let the good vibes be ruined.
Am I the only one seeing the other point made though? I am not for dismissing hate and difficulties for LGBTQ+ peeps, either, and sure, that looks rude, but it is, I believe, also a fact that there has been a lot of progress over the last decades.
Not just legally, but in terms of organizations, festivals, attitudes, hell even shops to buy clothes for other body types, binders, packers and so forth. Doesn't mean it's easy, but it sure is a reason to celebrate. I'd never have been able to explore my self-identity without the internet and other peeps I met there (bless you all.), and that's special.
I'd rather look at this and take it as a reminder on how far we've come, and how grateful I am for it. And that, that is quite a good thing for pride month.

I mean that's a nice sentiment, but "I haven't had any problems, and there's a law, therefore no problems exist!" doesn't just look rude, and there are definitely better ways to encourage positivity than "Pfff, you guys are clearly not living in reality if you think things are bad!"

Got it. Thanks for the "polite" suggestion. Gonna join the event.

------(Why I'm kinda not gonna take your advice about bowing out)----------------
Basically you're telling me I'm "negative" for not suggesting things were better years ago than now. 2018: three LGBT ppl were killed. No word yet for 2019 on this article. 2016: A bunch of ppl get killed at a nightclub in Orlando. 2000-2009: so many I can't count. It goes on at least a page. 1990-1999: Same deal.

I feel safer now than then, yes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_violence_against_LGBT_people_in_the_United_States

"You're so negative, I don't want your opinion, things have been awful lately. It was so much better earlier." No, and you need to take back what you just said. Now. And then apologize to: Howard Efland, Robert Hillsborough, Terry Knudsen, Robert Allen Taylor, Steven Charles, Rick Hunter and John Hanson, Robert Altom, Julio Rivera, Brandon Teena, Chanelle Pickett, Fred Mangione, Julianne Williams, Nick Moraida, Billy Jack Gaither, Fred Martinez, Gary Raynall, Rodney Velasquez, everyone in that Orland nightclub, and I just picked some of them.

Orrrrrrr maybe... as one LGBT to another, you can respect that I don't have the same journey or the same outlook as you.

When I look for positive things in LGBT stuff, I look at how far everything has come. How I now can go doctor's office or skating rink or to a movie or to a restaurant, and not have a sense of "I'm gonna die when I leave this place." Maybe you don't, maybe you can only see things as needing a perk up. Your opinion is wanted and respected. It's fine until you impose that outlook on me. I am asking that you respect my journey also.

Are things easy? I don't think that was what I was saying at all (if it sounded that way, sorry). But if you're saying they were better even two years ago, I'm gonna have to ask for an apology for me too. Two years ago I was living in a dump in the city with two frat boy assholes, struggling to make apartment payments, and couldn't find as job as me. Now I'm self-employed even if it's PT as hell, I still can be me on the job, at church, and even my family who is traditional accepted me.

The most positive thing I can think of is that another life ago, I was stuck in my room, afraid to go out and talk to people. Afraid to be me. But if you're not okay with that...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will be participating in the event probably, and I probably will have some sort of cute and upbeat game. Or I might not have a game. Depending on whether I get too busy or other factors. I might join and three days later decide there is too much drama in this event.

But the rest of you need to have a serious look at yourselves, and how you're coming across. Because it feels more judgemental than positive.

Thank you, Kylaia. I will try to bury the hatchet, so long as everyone else just at best understands me, and at worst just ignores me.

I was raised "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." And for years, I couldn't say anything at all, because I had nothing positive to look at. Now, I have friends, I have people I can tell what before was a secret so embarrassing that I couldn't tell anyone, before I had depression for months. And things are better, and I'm getting grief about how this is negative, because I guess they can't see anything but problems or maybe think I'm saying nothing is hard.

Stuff is hard, yes. But to me, it's like that song 99 Problems. Poverty and other stuff are higher on my list.

nah

anyway how annoying is it that aspen's icon isn't fully white-outlined?? it hurts me personally but the other two (also missing left-side pixels) look okay next to the others ;V

...You mean the left edge?

Couldn't you fudge it by like making a Menu_Avatar picture, and have that one with drawn-in white edges?

Or you could straight up custom menu. If you want to spend extra hours and variables and stuff. I dunno about that.
