I might not have submitted anything to this event, or interacted much at all within it's context, but, I'll try my hand at playing the games that were submitted and have a few more things to write about in the gaming diary thread.

Sorry, I ran out of time. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were very busy days for me and my family as Friday was extremely chaotic packing for the beach, Saturday was a 8 hour car ride to the beach where I had to wake up at 4:00 AM to drive there and soon as I got to the house crashed in bed, and afterwards yesterday and today I got the worst depression I've had in recent memory for seemingly no reason so I had no motivation to do literally anything. Sorry about that. The game I had planned for this event will probably be out in a few days to a week, depends on how bad my depression gets in the coming days.

Edit: The game I had planned, "Koros in Candyland," is now cancelled. Development on Noel and the Tower of Doom will resume shortly.

I'll have more commentary on the games later, but, I want to ask about Sweet. There was an indication that the game wasn't done, and only a couple maps and events could be completed. Which is fine, as this event allows demos, or incomplete games. However, from what I can see, the only contents of the ZIP file for Sweets is the project file? Big oops?
author=Rpgmakerfungames9800
I didn't have enough time to actually finish, so I just finished my maps and a few events.

Hi! I don't remember how to do a proper ping in forums xD but tried checking your game and apparently you uploaded just the project file (the Game.rpgproject) and not the game itself. Wonder if you can reupload, either at your locker or something like MediaFire.

Not sure if will be counted for the event, but feel bad if work was made in vain. 8')

I've played half the games at this point, and hope to play the rest today/soon. Here's what feedback/notes I have thus far, in the order in which I played them.

The Golden Pan: Side Story - Sweet Delicacy by CrazyBabi

So, if I understand things correctly, there's a contest of baked goods, which may or may not take cues/inspiration from Iron Chef, that provides a ton of monies for the winner. Certainly, enough money to get out of two months of backed-up rent bills.

Lost by two points in the tutorial battle. Not terrible, for a first attempt. Though, I'm not 100% sure if I recall if he said that he wanted his cake sweet? Well, at least I got the chicken egg, though, it was a tough fight.

Either it's me, or it's really difficult to find ingredients that increase aesthetics? Like, the first battle, the requirement is to have at least 30, and I was having trouble getting it to 20. I had to re-read the tutorial to remind myself which symbols everything was, since I initially was looking at the star for aesthetics, and that value is actually something like, base score.

Though, I don't think I realized until after the tutorial battle that the map respawns the ingredients. Not sure if I would've done better in the tutorial if I had realized it sooner, but, I think it's the timer that messes me up more than anything else. I totally get why the timer is there, so, I'm not sure if I have a good suggestion here.

Acceptance 2ugar Diet by OldPat

So, I expect this to be a "joke game", based on a subset of the community. One of which I'm not a part of, and whose jokes will fly right over my head.

Well, that was... something? The opening was super-annoying, but, the rest of the game was... maybe okay? I dunno. This kind of humor is either going way over my head, or, like I thought, it's some kind of in-joke and I'm on the outside. Not that I necessarily want to be in on it.

Sweet by Rpgmakerfungames9800

I noted this earlier on the event-page, but, uh, it looks like the only thing that was uploaded here was the project file, and... none of the files that go with it? Welp.

Confectioner Fantasy by pianotm

This is a charming little collect-a-thon (I found 101 Licorice?), and, the calming music definitely helps keep things stress-free. Though, there's certainly a number of well-hidden objects, thanks to their position in on the maps, and those of trees, but, I suppose the objects all being out on the open might make things too easy. There were a few points in the game where I thought the walking/running speed could have been greater, but, I feel this is a minor point against the game.

Sugar Rush by Soulrain

This is a funky little platformer, but, I kinda wish the checkpoints and respawn mechanics worked differently. Though, I think the game is largely geared to being family-friendly, and that having Lily pulled up by a hook, and being sent back to the last known checkpoint is likely part of that. Still, it's a little aggravating to have to sit and watch the process. Though, perhaps one can also look at this mechanic as the game's way of saying, "here's this part of the course again, now do it again, only do it right/better."

Effervescent Fantasy 1 Cross by Lascivaware

I'm not sure about half of what the characters are saying. A number of terms that are thrown around are entirely foreign to me, and over my head. I'm also at a loss of what to do. There's a boulder I can push, and a statute, but, I can't say for sure if the writing on the statue's plaque has anything to do with the boulder, or if moving the boulder to the "correct" position will do anything. Or, if that is even a puzzle that the game expects me to solve.

I can't say for sure if I'm a fan of the combat, where there's abilities that miss without fail, but then a follow-up ability is used that is the actual, desired effect. I can't say for certain if there is a better workaround for the intended system, or if I can properly identify what the intended system is. I will say some of the cut-scenes in combat that trigger off of the "Enchant" ability toes the line for acceptable content for my personal tastes. Though, I might be a bit prudish on this point.

Dead Velvet by grimurex and Raganoxer

Walking can definitely be faster.

As soon as I went from a long hall of bathroom stalls into to walking among a field of clouds, I lost all sense of direction. Maybe before that. It was certainly the moment that defined my loss of interest to continue playing. I suppose part of the challenge is to make sense of the teleport maze, and I have to give a few props to the Gun of Blasting gun mechanic. Still, I don't think this game is for me. I don't doubt there are fans of this kind of game, though.

Emily's Sweets Event by Vaccaria, OzzyTheOne, and Delsin7

Text cut-off right in the intro. I didn't detect one anywhere else in my play, but, it's a minor issue, at best.

It took a number of retries, confusion, and attempts, with some icons I couldn't quite identify until later (the pizzelle?) but, I did, eventually, get the hang of the process. I can only personally deal with one order at a time, though, on a lark, I spawned, like, five customers in quick succession. Certainly an information overload for my poor brain.

Though, if there is one other thing I want to note, it's that the icon for the cupcake with a cherry on top and the cupcake with chocolate on top look exceptionally similar to me. I swear, I made a chocolate-topped cupcake three times to serve to a customer, and had to face-palm each time it was denied, and I realized I made the wrong thing. I get that the icons have to be a certain size to fit inside the thought-bubbles, but, I thought I should mention it regardless.

Sorry that you had trouble with the hook. I probably should've made it a little faster, to be honest. Also, Candy Gardens Act 2 has a glitch where I used the wrong object in place of a checkpoint.

The aesthetics point is quite awkward to balance since it is the additional outside of the main attributes. I guess I should have either increase the ingredients' aesthetics point or lower the aesthetics requirement. But I was afraid the game will become too easy.

We talked a bit on Discord, but, I'll say here that I really liked this game's sense of speed, and how you can go through enemies by without being stopped/pushed back, and only loosing some of your candy.

pianotm

For the most part, it's fine. However, there was one area, I think it was the farm? There was a set of butterscotch tucked between rows of raised soil, and they registered as a barrier. Getting them all had me move pretty far down each of the lanes, so, it was a bit eye-rolling to get them. Still, this was the game I enjoyed the most from this event!

It's something of a balancing act, but, if you want to refine the formula beyond this event into a gamepage, maybe try it with lowered requirements first. Like, reduce it by 10, see how it feels, then tweak up/down as necessary. Though, I think having the requirement being a multiple of 5 (if not 10) might be where this game wants to be?

I love the feedback you gave me because it's honest.

Move the rock to the left of the remains in the pond and follow the road from Clairet's effigy while unclothed breaking her enchantment on the others to reveal a chest and allow entry into the inn once 50,000 lire has been collected.

Yep, someone tried to do a MyHouse.wad clone the moment you spoke up about the field of clouds part (as well as the maze). Also, I came from watching Libby stream and I am 100% sure they took notes from it. HOWEVER, they completely forgot about what made MyHouse.wad's maze-like structure navigatable (same room layout, different design, and easy-to-point room transportation), hence the literal confusion.

Also, thanks for the review as well! We'll definitely look on to those aspects.

I knew what made it navigable, but I didn't want to copy it verbatim. We took more inspiration from games akin to Yume Nikki and LSD Dream Emulator, hence the more confusing and nonsensical layout. You're meant to get lost and not have a clear direction to go, slowly losing your confidence in your sense of direction before gaining it back once you understand the "rules" of the layout. It's meant to mimic the experience of a lucid dream (think "wait, this room doesn't lead to where I thought it would" being similar to the experience of realizing "wait, I'm dreaming?"), I think we achieved that quite well, but of course is not for everyone, which is more than understandable.

EDIT: If I had used another RPG Maker besides 2003 I would have likely included features like a run-button to make navigation easier. But due to me having limited button usage it would have been too much effort in the week allotted to find a way to let the player run as well. The only buttons available to you are Interact, Menu, Shift, and Number keys 1-0, hence why healing had to be on your '1' key.
I might remake it one day and expand on it.

Speaking of which, do you think there's footage available of the play-through and chat during it? I ended up falling asleep before it was played and was disappointed to not see the stream available on Twitch.

Pretty much understandable. Even Libby pointed that out how the game is designed in such a way. Still a bold move to go for it, though I would give it a shot (or not, I may just end up becoming Libby with her casette rant xd).

Anyhow, the VOD's right here. Enjoy!
